Vinyl Recorder T560 Overhead Motor

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

So I contacted Faulhaber directly and they put me in touch with their UK engineer. I'll let you all know the outcome as soon as possible. Thanks for all the support... The last bit of hair I had has turned completely grey the past few weeks!

So, also looking at Ben's photos, the capacitor is sitting on top of a board that is attached to the rear around the connections, if it is a Faulhaber, the model number would usually be stamped in the black plastic (under the board) ;-)

The cap was soldered directly across the terminals on mine, identifiying marks removed from the plastic body (though this could've happened when I was digging out the silicone) and also the gearhead (again, could've happened when I was removing the gaffer tape).

Given how Souri physically removed all identifying marks on every other VR component I've come across (i.e. ICs, external precision motor, drive coils etc.) then I doubt you had anything to do with destroying the ones on the motor and gearhead mate.

Service manual idea. Brilliant - happy to chip in and do the design / layout (am a designer).

Is anybody with a working VR able to do me a solid and time the RPM of the black wheel when the groove/speed adjustment is maxed out (fully clockwise)? Thanks!

OK, so after some correspondence with Faulhaber's UK engineer, we have deduced that the motor is: Faulhaber 2230FR006S+22/2 308:1

Lead time on these is 8 weeks, just to warn you all!

Now all that remains is to have the original brass bearing housing cloned (for those just tuning in, the original wasn't straight) and we're golden.........

No worries, thanks to everyone who chimed-in. I wouldn't wish the stress of the past four weeks on anybody! I'll write-up the full process once I've had the parts made and everything is up & running.

It's a pleasure to help you , I hope the pictures we're useful
That sense of community is what makes it so reassuring and special, since the creator is a no show!
When Souri stopped answering me when I had too many questions and troubles with the VR, I was like " where do I go from there?? all the money and time invested"
It's people like Steven from Myshank, Mark Rob and Bennett that saved my ass.

Let's keep the love and support coming, we can only grow from that and get better from this!!!

Wanted to revisit and see if everything worked out for you in the end?

Still waiting on parts to be made. Pandemic has turned this into a bit of a saga, plus I thought that I'd make a couple of improvements to the design whilst it's dismantled. A properly mounted motor, replacing the gaffer tape/silicone mess and easier access for maintenance rather than blindly spraying oil into a tube...
