Yuri Suzuki Easy Record Machine

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

I love Gakken ! Got the wax cylinder recording n playback with a candle stick, mono synth, all very functional and educational to put together and mod friendly. These are usually sold at magazine n bookstores here in Asia. Toy ,yes but affordable by anyone ,they work n so cool to collect!

Originally $82 for regular version, about $100 for the Amazon version with more supplies. Listing on eBay from Japan at $212.

When I bought it from Japan it was ¥9480 - about £70 - cheap postage and no customs charge coming in

When i saw the information about this toy cutter first posted here: https://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8570 i was super excited about getting one. After a few days i paid in full during the pre-order stage on amazon and forgot about it as it was a while until the issue was going to be delivered. A few days ago i checked my amazon account to find to my horror that the order has been cancelled. SAY WHAT NOW.
I did not not cancel any orders  unbelievable

I'm pretty sure they/someone still charged my card for the payment though so i will have to look into that, seeing as I'm getting nothing for my payment. What a joke

Took a little longer than I anticipated but here is a link to some photos and a video of my first cut and playback. Need to play around with the tension and work out how to stop it swafting under itself. The instructions simply say ‘collect at end of recording’

Definitely feels cheap but it costs £70 including 20 blanks so you can’t really complain. Really good fun building it from the components! Something I normally shy away from.

Looks really cool! Is it 7" or smaller? To me looks smaller than 7".
Best,
Bob

From what I've read, it cuts 5" blanks, but the playback tonearm can accommodate 7". Definitely a niche toy, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for the wider release.
