Hara 180 type recorder help

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Hara 180 type recorder help

hi,
I have the hara m180 version disc recorder. On mine, the cutter head when lifted up to go to the platter/ record is not high enough to clear the edge of the record/ platter. If I remove the stylus (what type cutting stylus, long or short, mine is long) and rubber mat, it just clears. My manual is in Japanese (is there an English version somewhere?); Is there a height adjustment for the head or arm?. I looked around and couldn't find one. I thought I had maybe bent the arm as I had the mechanism out of the cabinet upside down on a thick blanket to work on loose items inside. That arm mech. is very sturdy, and looks straight. Now, when it was shipped (not from you) from Japan, I noticed the cutter head was jammed in the down position and I had to free it, so that may have done it (that middle spring metal was on the wrong side of the plunger that raises the head up and down, Any help would be great (all other functions seem to work properly). Thank you, Rick

I’ve been using this machine for years and have had some great results after a bit of trial and error... has anyone successfully upgraded the cutterhead or made any other mods ?
