vr lead screw

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

any recommendations on cleaning and maintenance? i've been cutting for a few years now without ever thinking about it, but the flywheel rotation has started to become noticeably less smooth lately and i can hear squeaking noises that are coming through on my records. when i touch the screw, it is dirty and not slick. i can see souri's little sticker indicating that oil is needed but i'm not sure what kind to use or where to put it. is there a way to remove the screw so it can be cleaned without fully disassembling the entire machine?
