VMS-70 Platter drive oil

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

VMS-70 Platter drive oil

Hello to all,

The Neumann manual for the VMS-70 calls for filling the turnable drive with "305º C" oil. May I ask what you folks have been using? I do have some silicon oil that came with the lathe. Would that be ok?

Thank you all.

Respectful regards,
Dave

I'm pretty sure the silicon oil is only to be used in the dashpot in the overhead. I don't know what available product would be used for the the TT drive - I've never had to top mine up and never replaced it.
