Question for anyone with a VR T560 who uses a 1200/1210

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Question for anyone with a VR T560 who uses a 1200/1210

Im looking at trying to contact souri to buy a VR, After reading lots of varying opinions im not sure if i could get cuts without wow and flutter on a VR using a 1200/1210, Is anyone who uses souris standard set up (ie without the heavy platter and motor) able to cut consistantly without wow/pitch fluctuation using a 1200/1210?

Ive heard a lot of VR cuts and have always been happy with the general audio quality but some have had pitch variation, particularly on the outer areas of a 12" disc.

Really interested in your opinions before i take the plunge, if im successful Should i try to find an SP10 to use with it or technically is it possible to stick with the 1200 if i take in enough knowledge at the training course?

I used a 1210 for the first few months, it was passable for 7" but never for 12" especially towards the outer edge like you mentioned.
I upgraded to a SP10, and SP15 respectively, and haven't looked back

I've got a standard set-up with a 1210: I've been cutting 7s and 12s, and have only encountered wow & flutter on a 12" outer edge when I'd got the cutting stylus too 'heavy'. The 1210 I'm using is in decent shape, with new main bearing, which I expect helps.

An additional question- are there any adjustments you need to make? (for instance height of the SP10)
And how is it done?

I just measured very amateur-ly with a ruler, where the 1200 sat when it was mounted in the feet.
So I matched the center of the SP10 with the center of the 1200.
The SP10 took one little 12" cardboard spacer underneath it for height, my sp15 took three added pads for height.
that's all though!

Hi. To minimise wow and flutter on a 1200 I made a 4 mm brass 13inch plate . The
Difference was amazing I also never cut at the edge ,always 1 inch lead in before start..
