Neumann SA74 Suspension Box Help

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Neumann SA74 Suspension Box Help

Hi Trolls

We are doing up an SA74 and need some help (photos would be great) ...

In the SB the CutterHead Dropping Lever works as per normal, dropping the head down, but there is nothing to keep the lever engaged and the head (and lever) returns back to the up position.

when looking inside the SB, specifically at the Cutter Lift Button, there is nothing to link the lever and the lift button... i assume we have a part missing... ??

thanks guys

There's a bar actuated by a solenoid that is spring loaded and engages a piece on the shaft that the drop lever is attached to. You can see it from the left side of the box (where the mounting nut is) with the side cover removed. Sometimes the mounting bracket is out of adjustment, it's held with two screws.

Wow, you're missing the solenoid with the bar completely...
