Presto 6N Vacuum Set-Up/Mounting

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Presto 6N Vacuum Set-Up/Mounting

I've been doing a ton of research here on various vacuum set-ups. I have a nice medical aspirator pump that's doing a good job so far. However, I can't seem to figure out a good way to mount the hose to my 6N. I was hoping that anyone with a Presto might be able to chime in with their experience. Thanks!

It isn't easy to set up a reliable vacuum on a 6n. The old school way was to hang a tube off the front that was parallel and close to the disc just to the front left of the cutter head. If you can arrange a tube that hangs off the front and then curves down and gets close to the needle, that would be better. I had some tunes made a long time ago that come in the back, but they are hard to get low enough to clear the carriage and high enough to clear the disc simultaneously. I got into embossing shortly thereafter and just gave up.

here is a video of how my presto 6n was hooked up with a vacuum.

The 6n is all boxed up at the moment due to motor problems.

Ok. I made some modifications to my setup and this is working great so far.
Just a small aluminum tube directly to the latex to the jar. I know the tape is not a good idea, but works.

No static and I can get all the chip.

I was looking into same thing a while back and you can see some solutions here:

However, if ROLANDJAYS could machine a nice mount--that'd be fantastic. :)

Last pictures are from my 6N.

Actually I'd like a nice mount too. :)

Thanks guys,

Some interesting food for thought here. Will have a look at the 6N tomorrow and see what I can think of with this in mind.

Cheers

crowesBR, if you are still around, is that setup working for you OK? I'd think that forcing the swarf to make a 180 could cause problems, or not.
