Presto K8 Lathe Arm

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Does anyone know how to remove the lathe arm from a Presto K8?

I think you have to unscrew the knurled knob and then loosen the hex nut at the base.

Thanks, I got it figured out. You have to remove the hex screw that's on the knob and work that off (which was a pita) and the rest comes apart. Years of old grease sort of stuck everything together horribly...

You can put a washer in there to raise the assembly in case you have a fancy tt mat. I took my mat off because my blanks were riding too high. I don't lean back too hard. We need a whole forum section for just the presto k series.

Yeah, that's not a bad idea. I think there's enough people out there restoring these...

loosen the allen head set screw on the cap and remove the cap. Then loosen the two on the gear arm. Then it should pull straight up. It may be a little rusty so you might have to work it back and forth as you pull, but that's all there is to it.

That is a gorgeous K8; looks to be in pristine condition. Where on Earth did you find it? Has the advance ball, too. Wow! Is the rubber tire in good condition? What does one do if it isn't?
