Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
I searched the web for the highest torque turntables. The Reloop RP-8000 has up to 4.5kg torque (and 0,02 wow&flutter), the Stanton STR8-150 has also 4.5kg (but 0,10 wow/flutter).
Technics 1200/1210 has only 1.7kg (but 0,01 w/f). Has anyone tried these two in cutting situation? Or maybe you have another idea for better wow/flutter/torque?

How do you check for wow and flutter ?
I built a high torque turntable and would like to check it.

Hi,
You have to cut a steady tone to disc (3Khz and 3.150 Khz seems to be standard). Ideally, you want to playback while you cut to eliminate the wow and flutter from your playback turntable adding to the result. To get a result, you need a wow and flutter meter that is calibrated to a standard weighting curve. These can be quite costly as they are not an everyday tool. Check out Ebay. I see some used there for under $200
The meter is just an FM demodulator with industry defined post detection filtering and weighting. It can also be done via FFT. FFT or a scope output to view the FM detector output rahter than a simple meter reading is nice because it lets you see if the wow and flutter components are are cyclical or random. If cyclical, that points to sources like eccentricities in idlers or torque ripple in motors.
It seems like it might be a nice project. I'll see if I can cobble together a digital version using Flowstone. If I get somewhere, I'll post here.

Re: Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
from what I've heard and seen, the stats on those turntables are their STARTING torque, not RUNNING torque.
I use a technics SP10 with no issue

As owner of Stanton st-150 i can say for sure it's 4.5 kg/cm Running torquetragwag wrote:from what I've heard and seen, the stats on those turntables are their STARTING torque, not RUNNING torque.

Numark ttx too, but do not have comparison with the SP10

Thanks for the replies/ I will test Reloop 6000/7000/8000 this week. All of them has more RUNNING torque than SL1200 series (2.5kg or more comparing to 1.5/1.7kg o Technics)

Re: Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
For cutting - only "wobble" problem is the issue. The other things on that video does not matter in cutting.. Maybe he got a bad platter.Gus wrote:sat159p1 wrote:Thanks for the replies/ I will test Reloop 6000/7000/8000 this week. bad platter = bad embossing or cuttingsat159p1 wrote:For cutting - only "wobble" problem is the issue. The other things on that video does not matter in cutting.. or you spend more money i don't know how much, but isn't cheap work for a new platter with your own specs at your local machine store
Re: Better turntable for cutting than SL1210?
update: did the "100k" mod to SL1210 (according to vinylium specs) and it has a bit better torque but DON'T DO THAT!!! If the platter has a bit of touch the leds are shaking left and right, so forget about good cuts, they all have "tremolo effects".. So, stick to your R209 resistor which should be 330k total. I had bad experience with going down to 150k and 100k.. all worse than stock resistor setting.
PS: I saw Reloop 600mk5 today and it has way better torque than technics, but the platter is wobbling. So, unusable
