excellent video interview w/ Greg Calbi - from 1979!

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

excellent interview with Sterling Sound's mastering engineer extraordinaire Greg Calbi - from 36 years ago - back in the day when edits by splicing tape and mastering for vinyl records to lacquer on a lathe using only analog processors was the only way you did it ->

Well worth checking out!

(Playing gear spotting - it's hard to see what everything is due to the quality of the video - but I think on the desk rack to his left is an EMT 156, below that maybe an ITI or Sontec 230, and below that a Sontec 430. But is that a custom console in front of him? Beyond that - looks to be a VMS-70, SAL-74 and SX-74 cutting system. Anyone that can tell what else is there please chime in!)

Best regards,
Steve Berson

what an awesome video.
as someone who grew up well into the digital era, I've worked with tape a few times, but never seen anyone who's that quick and comfortable editing.
I'm sure that rock star of a Studer helps too.
making lathe cuts on a Presto 6N, HIFI stereo cuts on vinylrecorder
