TEST RECORDS forevaluatingturntableplaybacksystemperformance

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

whats your "to go" test record for tuning up your system ?

Reason i´m askin is i´ve been using NAB´s test record from 1964 and just now tested on DECCA´s test record (looks older then the NAB record) and well, levels dont quite match specially in the highfreq frequncy response section

i also have a NAB test record from 1989 thats totally messed up, the 1k is fine and in line with the other records on level check but the 2k & 700hz both show a 2-3db difference in L/R when checking frequency response

we pressed our own :)

but then there is also the "deutsches hifi institut" testrecord which is fine.
I used it a lot (mostly the 1000Hz sinus tones) but after years
it became noisy and it is not as accurate as one could expect...

and there is a new one out:
http://www.analogshop.de/index.php/en/shop/1-vinyl/9-test
super expensive but maybe it is worth the money if they really
made an effort to cut it with state of the art equipment and know-how
(at least they pretend as if)

yes.
the vinylike test tone 7inch is most likely the most accurate at the moment.
i have a whole collection and all are of at least 0.4-1db left right... terrible..

we tried to cut once a really good one.
light beam measurement until we got it to 0 during cutting.
with plating,pressing some slight changes.
i did the light beam measurments after receiving the pressings and i think its -017db and 0.23db off.
something like this.
so whenever mart has time to press more you might get the chance to get one. price is approx. 10 euro.

if you need one with accurate high frequency..i guess you will have a problem. still not managed to get it accurate enough....
