list of heating components

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

40 gauge NiChrome wire. Wrap the stylus a number of turns with the wire. Use Dental Cement to keep it in place.

The wires are then connected to a DC power supply. A variable resistor (potentiometer) is used to adjust current flow. You could add a meter so you can adjust current to a specific point that you know gives you good heat.

Be careful. Too much heat will bake the chip coming off the lacquer to the stylus. If this happens the stylus is done.

What is the optimal voltage range to send through the wire? I'm getting this set up but don't want it to be set up for too little or too much.
Anyone know?
thanks
