New Member of Lathe Trolls

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

History of Recorded Sound is located in Culver City, California.
The company began as a educational forum at Columbia College
afterwhich in 1987 it became a direct-to-disc record label. Presently,
"History" supplies lacquer discs and stylii for West Coast users. Also;

Scully/Westrex service, Ampex service and Gotham/Grampian
repair. ********

My specalty is teaching lacquer mastering to a new generation of
recordists. I worked for Westrex for over 20 years and have been
in the lacquer mastering busniss for 35 years. Records are one of
the most charismatic ways to record anything--I want to learn
new things from you for our future vinyls.- Len at "history"

Hi Len,

Welcome. I see you do work on Grampian heads. Do you have any copies for sale of tech info on the heads (e.g. manuals, service notes etc.)? Do you know what the correct damping oil is that should be used on these heads? Is this something that should be replaced? I saw some info that indicates its Dow 200 silicone, but that comes in various viscosities. Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

Mark
