Fundraising Auction: Apollo 14-inch lacquer masters on ebay

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

Dear Record Cutters,

Our friends at Apollo are supporting the Secret Society of Lathe Trolls website with a special fundraising promotion. This week, they are donating, for United States-only auction:

*One Box of 25 fresh 14-inch Apollo Lacquer Masters. (Acetate recording blanks for mastering.)

*The winner of the auction will also receive a 10% discount off anything else ordered from Apollo to go along with this shipment. Apollo will ship this and the onetime 10% discount order to the winner of the bid, for no shipping charge (UPS ground shipping – US only). The standard Apollo product guarantees apply.

The funds from this auction will go towards keeping the Secret Society of Lathe Trolls site running.

Keep in mind that the value (=worth) of the auction may be higher to you if you intend to use that 10% off of a large additional order to Apollo.

The auction starts at 12 noon Eastern Standard Time (9 am west coast time).

And with that....bid away!

The eBay link may not work until the auction starts. I've been informed that the auction is good for Hawaii and Alaska, too.

Check it tomorrow. It probably won't show up until the auction start time. If I goofed, I'll reprogram it tomorrow.

Sam and Terry at Apollo are awesome. Always super helpful and doing a job that cannot be easy and is probably pretty thankless most of the time.

If you didn't win, fear not. Apollo is ready to repeat this promotion one additional time, ASAP. I invite any and all feedback from any participants on how I might run the auction any better, too. I am new at all of this. PM me, if you prefer.

Use more buzz words in the title of your next auction and don't put US Only, you can simply exclude anyone not in the US from the auction and indicate in the description that it is US only. I'd definitely include words like - record lathe Neumann Scully Audiodisc blank lacquer masters. Use every single character that eBay allows so you can maximize your exposure. You want to get as many eyes on the auction so it's important to get the buzz words in the listing title and put the details like size, how many, etc. in the actual description. You also want to get exposure for the site to folks who aren't already members as well and those buzz words will help.

I'm doing another auction, but I'm handling it differently as an experiment. This one is a "make offer" auction. You are not bound in by the listed price.

Hi Steve, your tag words should be in the title, not the listing. Most folks don't search both the auction title and description, just the title.

OK! thanks. I've used up the word count and added a subtitle.

I think this form of auction may be off-putting, as people see the list price and don't notice that they can make a lower offer. It could work for people, but it runs counter to auction psychology.
