Building a Horseshoe Magnetic Mono Cutter Head (pics)

This is where record cutters raise questions about cutting, and trade wisdom and experiment results. We love Scully, Neumann, Presto, & Rek-O-Kut lathes and Wilcox-Gay Recordios (among others). We are excited by the various modern pro and semi-pro systems, too, in production and development. We use strange, extinct disc-based dictation machines. And other stuff, too.

You can also probably use the info and research to make something more of the modern stereo pro heads, now that you know the basics.

i bet if the coil and spring are strong enough you could cut with this pick up, has a VERY similar design to old presto and RCA heads...
generally its for reproduction.. but i like to play wif it sometimes.. :P

Yes, those old pickups can be used for recording. I have a book that suggests using a pick up if your budget is tight...
Principle is the same, but there some differences to real cutters. Stiffer springs, stronger coils...
But might be good for some lofi stuff.
Wanted: ANYTHING ORTOFON related to cutting...thx
