Re: used cutting styli
I'm in for some Westrex 350's. Useful for setting up my system once I get around putting all the pieces together. I'm anyway going to ruin a styli, so it could be a used one just aswell..

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
Anything in these manuals about the pitches of lead-ins / spirals, lead-outs, and the whole business of catch grooves? I know that "8 pitch" is shorthand for 7.625 lpi, "32 pitch" for 32.3125 lpi, and that there are numerous variances of 2- and 4-pitch lead-outs. (As well as 15.625 lpi "16 pitch" f...

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
Chris got his vari-pitch schematics, and once I got off my lazy ass, I'm going to continue with scanning stuff. Vari-pitch schematics will be online soon.

Ooh, excellent news!
If there happens to be a cover+solenoid assembly for Scully's head lift/drop unit, it's mine.

WTB: Cover + solenoid assembly for a Scully's head drop unit
http://www.virtalahde.com/Photo0656.jpg Mine has it's original cover missing. It had a flimsy looking mock-up installed, and I'll make a new and better one for it if that's what it takes - but it would be cool to get it all original. If you happen to have one (maybe even the entire head drop assemb...

Re: Sad news: Nickou, Yann de Kéroullas, rest in peace
I've been changing some messages with Yann, although not recently. I didn't know him that well, but he seemed like a nice, passionate guy.
It's quite shocking to read about his passing. It's always so sudden.

Re: Fully operational Scully / Westrex system for sale :: Be
This is a beautiful system, I went to check it out on April and got a lot of inspiration for the restoration of my Scully.
If I didn't already have one, I would buy this in a heartbeat.

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
Here's a shot I took today:
I'm trying to get it to the state that I can do "cold" test cuts with no audio by the end of this summer. Meaning TT, vacuum, heating and all that is working. The goal is to have it up and running by the summer of 2014.

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
Yes, it's a vary lathe model. My S/N is #644. The body of the machine says "501" in some parts (like the assembly holding the flywheel the turntable belts hook up to), but I assume this is because the molds have this same label. My Scully is undergoing a strip-down. It was already partially torn dow...

Interesting idea for a vacuum system
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyG2_-QNjZY Put a compressor in an airtight container and let it blow out through a 1-way valve. The replacement air must come in from another hole, and vacuum is created. Pretty neat, actually. If you're going to enclose the pump anyway to make it silent, why not do i...

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
Could be. The large schematics are folded into A4 size, so scanning them should be easier when they're already divided in scannable chunks.

This thing seems to be a 3-phase motor. No caps, and was hooked up like a 3-phase motor would be.

Re: Various Scully/Westrex/Capps stuff
I'm on it. I'll need to figure out how to scan it all, but trust me, I'll get there.
The schematics are pretty big sheets of paper.. I'll try to take a photo.

Re: Scully owners, what kind of motors do you have?
No, there was a step-down transformer before the inverter and the Siemens Micromaster was hooked up straight to the motor (well, there was a simple 1st order L filter after it). I believe that at least with the Siemens inverters, they don't even like anything between the outputs and the motor. http:...
