Re: Lyric/Neumann users, have you had flutter problems?
Thanks for all of the advice guys. I ended up fixing a few things, and that seemed to sort the problem out. First, the hole in the "crown" coupling at the top of the lyrec was chewed up, so it had become eccentric. I had a local machine shop re-machine the shaft and coupling, the machinist went as f...

Lyric/Neumann users, have you had flutter problems?
im having some flutter problems with my setup. It is a Neumann turntable bearing with a lyric motor. If I play the 3150hz tone on my test record, it will get up to 3160 and down to 3140 or so. You've really got to strain to hear it, but it is there. Coupling shaft between the motor and TT is straigh...

Re: Press Ops
Very cool. I see you're from Austin. You setting up shop down there? Yeah, mastering/cutting www.audiomaticmastering.com I have not had the chance to pay Musicol a visit but would love to see there set-up judging by the youtube videos it seems legit. Legit enough to keep trucking for 40ish years. T...

Re: Press Ops
Was a press operator in Columbus for years. Full time some, part time some, depended on how busy other parts of the operation were.
The presses were in a basement, so i was sun deprived as a press operator too.

Re: the learning curve
The best advice is always to read through every thread on this forum with the word newbie in it somewhere via the search. So much information already contained within these digital walls. There are many paths through this hobby, none of which are cheap, easy, or quick. The more you can learn from e...

Re: the learning curve
I think everybody's journey to learn to cut records is different, but I'll give you my general trajectory. I ran a small label and we got our records manufactured locally. On the advice of an old rocker guy in the scene that we released records for, I would sit in on the mastering sessions when we w...

Re: VMS70 Fixed Pitch Stablization
I will share more as I get it all compiled. I've been doing a lot of research over the weekend. I've come to a number of conclusions. 1. The Zuma pitch computer utilizes the vms tachometers, impulse converter cards and motor drive cards. It is supplying LL, LV and V. The rest is done by the origina...

Re: VMS70 Fixed Pitch Stablization
I'm planning to use the existing 12v to drive the PWM. Just rerouting from the stock system to mine. Thanks! That sounds like a good plan, you know the existing 12v system supplies enough current for your motor. Also, it should be noted that I determined from the I card schematics that the voltage ...

Re: VMS70 Fixed Pitch Stablization
Please share. I would be very thankful. I'm still a little fearful that the tachometer on my pitch motor is worn out and therefore would not be the best thing to use for feedback. However, I could be wrong. Also, it should be noted that I determined from the I card schematics that the voltage that ...

Re: VMS70 Fixed Pitch Stablization
I think you'll need to keep the tack feedback otherwise, the motor speed will change over time and load. The tach will compensate for that. I could then inject my own digitally controlled PWM to replace the analog pwm. No input whatsoever from the tachometer. Just consistent digital PWM. I'm not su...

comprehensive list of stylus heater adhesives
If this thread already exists, please let me know and I'll take this one down. This is information I've pulled using the search function and from experience but I haven't used all of the stuff on this list, so, also, please let me know if any of this information is bad. I'm avoiding the "this might ...

Re: Mobile Pressing Plant
Am totally amazed by this. And this isn't meant to be snarky at all, or to detract from what they are doing, in fact this is more meant to point out things I think are amazing about it. This isn't a t-shirt shop in a trailer, they are manufacturing mildly flammable plastics products using three phas...

considerations when choosing a cutting amp
I'm looking down the road and predict in the future I'll probably have to move away from my 70's solid state cutting amps to something else. That is to say, some day they will fail in a catastrophic way that will make them to expensive to fix, or at the least, they will take a long time to fix. So, ...

Re: Wacky Air Powered Advance Ball Setup
It must have made chip pickup by the suction system a challenge. No doubt, I was also thinking if there was any humidity in your compressed air system at all you would spray water all over your blank. It only takes one drop forming in there. You would at least need a really robust moisture removal ...

Wacky Air Powered Advance Ball Setup
I was talking to a friend of mine who has been cutting since the 40's. We were talking shop about variable depth cutting systems and he mentioned that he was sure that someone, maybe westrex, had developed or was developing a kind of advance ball system using compressed air instead of anything physi...

Re: Lathe Comparisons
Howdy y'all. New to the forum. I have been working on a project for the last few months. My plan is to by a cutter and do a small run vinyl only label. I live in Austin, Texas and know a lot of musicians and have a lot of interest. It will be arty and boutique for sure. I was supposed to be getting...

Re: Testing a cutting amp using a speaker
Those driver transistors with the weird integral heat sink look just like the ones in my 70s Acoustic bass amp... are they made by RCA? Mine failed and made full-voltage-excursion crackling noises happen at the output of the amp. Some of them look like they were replaced with a different type with ...
