Re: Mid-range budget cutting chain. What processors?
If you don't need preview channels then you could use two channel analog processors as well. A BSS DPR902 would be my choice for high frequency limiter if a Maselec wasn't in the cards. There are a zillion EQ and compressor choices. I'd look for an EQ with an HPF/LPF I have some Neumann EE66 cards i...

Re: Mid-range budget cutting chain. What processors?
i know many DAW's have some sort of Stereo Enhancement tool. The one in Sequoia is multiband so you can use it as an EE. The best plug in EQ I've run across is the DMG Equilibrium. You could set that up as an EE by putting a filter on the side channel. It also has stereo HPF/LPF and lots of regular ...

Re: Mid-range budget cutting chain. What processors?
Are you looking for basic cutting processors like an EE, HPF/LPF and HF limiter? Or are you looking for "mastering" processors like EQ's and compressors?

Re: Cutting from DSD sources ...
Hi Paul, I think you could make this work with two Tascam units in sync, one playing a file prepped with the preview offset. You could use the free Tascam DSD editor to edit a blank piece of audio of the appropriate length onto the front of the "program" file. Thanks J! I have a friend with one. If...

Re: Cutting from DSD sources ...
Hi, I'm guessing you are right. I don't think you can delay S/PDIF via an analog delay. I bet it would be trivial for Tascam to add an offset function via a firmware update. It might be worth it to talk with them to see if they are up for it. I've talked to them at AES a couple of times. They didn'...

Re: Cutting from DSD sources ...
I thought a delay which passed the subcode bits transparently would probably work. I'm guessing that the magic is in the user defined subcode of the SPDIF stream.

I thought delaying the start pulse and having it free run might be close enough.

Re: Cutting from DSD sources ...
Syncing the clock is different from syncing one unit to another for multitrack like operation. You can sync one unit to another but there is no way to offset the sync for preview as far as I know. I've considered trying a delay line between the sync ports but I need two units in the same room to tes...

Re: Cutting from DSD sources ...
I've cut DSD sources from a Sony Sonoma system that isn't mine. I was scared of the unfiltered out of band noise from DSD. It didn't prove to be an issue. I've asked for few years now if any of the stand alone DSD boxes can be synced with an offset for automation. So far the answer has been no. Has ...

Re: Phono Transfer System Boards Available
I've been using one for about a month now as reference playback from the lathe. It's by far the best playback quality I've ever had. It's possible to have totally buzz and hum free playback. Not an easy trick with the polluted ground bus of a Neumann lathe. I will have a "demo unit" available to che...

No more weight is a static position. I am asking if it can be controlled dynamically by the solenoid.mossboss wrote:Since the weight is taken by the spring there is no more or less weight to deal with

I've had this up and running for a little while now. If you have a lathe you want this. By far the cleanest best phono playback I've ever had.

Re: Phono Transfer System
Wayne tried a FET input OPA2134 but found the bipolar input opamp was about 3dB quieter. I have no desire to do an opamp shuffle and see what happens. The boards are not set up for dual mono. If you used two complete sets you could use one for left and another for right. Seems like overkill to me an...

The bench usually looks more like this. I've since put two more benches at the back of the room. Now this bench is for electronics and the other benches are for metalwork. The machinists chest, drill bit cases and flex shaft rotary tool are on the other bench. It looks like I will be offering one of...

That's a good point. The straight line test doesn't isolate the turntable from the pitch motor. So the instability could one or the other or both.Greg Reierson wrote:I haven't tired it yet but I'm wondering, how much does the pitch motor stability affect the result?

Re: SWAP: 60hz Lyrec Motor SM8/3A for 50hz Lyrec Motor
I meant that W+F is not a useful metric for long term drift. It is meant to describe the behavior of one device. Not how two devices interface together. In pro audio speak, getting turntables to play together would be a synchronization issue. Since it is impossible to lock two turntables together wi...

Re: SWAP: 60hz Lyrec Motor SM8/3A for 50hz Lyrec Motor
Unless you devise and build a means to capture the flutter data across the diameters of a disc, there is no way of telling what the drift was like over time. Especially if the motor is inconsistent in its drift, which a lot are. Long term drift (within reason) is essentially unimportant for music r...
