'Casting' records
I've done this before with a product called Castolite. They have several types of resins and molding compounds that go by the brand name CastoMold. This works fairly well with 78 size grooves, but I doubt the molding compound would not have enough resolution to do LP size grooves.

Acoustic recorders
You're right that although Edison made commercial recorders for consumers to use, they were nothing like the recorders used in his studio. Studio recorders were made many different ways, some with compound diaphragms (i.e. more than one material used for the same vibrating element), usually the diap...

I'm from America and have dealt with Souri; he's really a nice guy to deal with, but he makes these machines by hand one at a time, and also makes a lot of revisions and improvements. I have not seen his website in a long time (2 to 3 years), and it looks like he is coming out with more products and...

RCA MI-11850C Cutting Head
Does anyone have any information on the RCA MI-11850C cutter? I came across one that's NOS, but without literature. It has a plug with 4 pins so I'm assuming mono with feedback, but not sure. Haven't disassembled it to look at the coils or wiring yet since I have no lit on it. This is the long, gray...

Presto question
Hey Rick, Yes the cartridge was originally designed for "nail" type styluses, usually Actone (or equiv.) transcription styluses. These supposedly had more refined points than a plain old steel needle, but with the weight of the arm, etc. it still did damage to the acetate. You can still get the curv...

Way to mod an amp?
I figured that would be the case; most of my experience has been with mono heads w/o feedback. Is there a way to modify a power amp for feedback? Not too many cutting amps with feedback capability come up on ebay...

Operating feedback head without feedback
I have an Ortofon head that I would like to try out, but don't have any feedback electronics yet. My understanding is that the feedback circuit prevents overmod basically through controlled cancellation (feeding back a signal created by the head to the input of the amplifier). Will driving the head ...

Handcranker, springwinder, yeah thats me
Just joined this forum; I have several old phonos including an Orthophonic Credenza, VV-X, Columbia BI, Edison Triumph, Victor Schoolhouse, etc. Used to have more, but got married - you know the rest. :) Anyway, I have done a lot of experimenting and research with cylinder recording since I'm intere...
