Re: Gear ID

never seen before...
but maybe it is something like a phono preamp? "PU" for PickUp?
The 50/75 switch could be for oldschool DIN 50µs encoding or modern RIAA 75µs treble EQ.
Don't know what the knob does, more pictures could maybe clarify what these units do..

Re: What is everyone using to offset their preview signal in a DAW?

Hey Discomo!

I think people here are discussing preview signals for automatic variable pitch controllers.
That's not something you find on a stock Vinylrecorder/Presto/etc...so don't worry about it ;-)

Re: tell me your experiences with the elliptical equaliser

so there must be a default hpf in the cutting system, the lowest you can cut. what are the numbers on that today (Hz, filter order)? The default hpf in cutting systems may be different from system to system. Some have it maybe at 20Hz or so, others may be DC coupled... But what has not changed in t...

Re: Disappearing grooves mid way through cutting lacqures??

I mean is that the groove depth dramatically increases and then decreases for a couple of rotations Funky! it would happen for just one single rotation Like one single 3mil wide strip of the blank is bad and everything else is fine? That's pretty narrow for mechanical thing! Maybe good old VMS80 (t...

Re: tell me your experiences with the elliptical equaliser

an elliptical equaliser is something that vinyl cutters rather avoid using. ...and produce records that skip/do not track on playback?? I'm not sure about that... what are really the pain/regrets when you have to use an elliptical equaliser? it will alter the stereo image (because that's what it sh...

Besides the color thing is there something special about them?
Or are you afraid that you got an old stock Transco in a Adamant Box?

Re: Mystery Lyrec lathe

Can it be that one of the motors is a little shorter? Something ike 2/3 of the other? If that is the case then you have one motor for 33/78 RPM and the other is the classic SM8/3 with 33/45/78 RPM speed. No starter motor attached. The mechanics look really nice, classic lyrec! The "electronics" I ca...

Re: Cutting records on a cnc mill

Interesting stuff - is there a sound or video of the actual cut records? Regarding your questions: - there's not to much going on on this site regarding new technology as most people here are doing it the oldschool (100+ years) way... - maybe start with some plastic? I guess milling a solid hunk of ...

Re: Mystery Lyrec lathe

Yeah, heavy metal!
Looks like a more stationary version of the SV2 "mobile" recorder.
Also cool finding a bunch of motors and turntables!

BTW - are you somewhere in the north?

Cheers

Re: FS: Vinylrecorder

As said it's not my unit and I don't have tons of experience on VR.
I just quickly put it together and did some test cuts to confirm it is in working condition.
If the unit is picked up locally I can show and give some introduction to record cutting.

Re: A slightly weird limiter circuit, any chance of some schematic review?

Hey Mr Engineer :-) Interesting design! Reminds me of some classic limiters for just that purpose, not with THAT chip but quadrant multipiers and stuff. A split band limiter? I also once started a very similair thing from a commercial unit having the same architecture (VCA chip for subtraction "gain...

Re: MS52H and AM131 suspension questions

The suspension is good for most european cutters that have the same back "sliding mount" - Caruso can be mounted if you want to... The grease in the MS52h is specified to be lasting "forever", so I would not mess around before some simple testcuts. The MS52h may have some limitation but on the other...

Re: Neumann AM131 in a newbie's hands!

Great find! I have some documents about the AM131, feel free to contact if you need something specific! Should not be too hard to get this one going - mostly mechanical stuff that if not bent or rusty just needs a clean & oil job and then it should be good again! MS52h needles are rare (as you see i...

Hi! No, not from Sweden. A snowy country more in the south... How do you think Ortofon made heads for Lyrec? A couple hours browsing my computer I found that other pic again hehe Guess it is from a museum in Sweden, same custom dial-knob on the right hand side of the machine (pitch adjustement?). Th...
