Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

New CH-9 cutting head (part 7) 11/2023 Now I was finally able to assemble the complete new FP-9 cutting head. Driver coils, feedback coils, torsion tube with V-spring, suction tube, stylus heater, lighting and connector plugs. . . 63_01.jpg . . 63_02.jpg . . Then I installed the cutterhead as a tes...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

Hello Thomas, just popping in to say this is all very impressive! I'm lost when I try to actually follow what you're doing, though quite interested in following along and learning more about it. It's too bad I only got my first lathe late last year - I was a vendor last spring at Fanzineist Interna...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

New CH-9 cutting head (part 6) 10/2023 But now on with the cutterhead. As an alternative to the external suction tube, I would like to try a suction tube on the cutterhead. The disadvantage is that central positioning is not possible and the cutting thread has to be sucked off slightly to the side....

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

Hello Thomas. I see significant progress in your project. Glad to see you still have the energy and drive to continue. I agree with you that many here read more than write. And without feedback, many enthusiasts quickly burn out. And since I write quite rarely myself, I will correct myself. After a...

Hello Eugene, it's so nice that you can come back. I follow the situation in Ukraine every day and thought it would be difficult for you to continue. It's all the better to see you back at work. I am looking forward to seeing the next steps of your project. All the best and greetings from Austria Th...

Lesson on loudspeakers and drive coils 10/2023 I have learned. This also increases the unpleasant feeling that I am responsible for not writing nonsense ...

Here’s a punk rock test cut and playback (video)
Your lathe looks great. The lighting reminds me of a mixture of steam punk, flux compensator and a ventilator from a heart operation. All in all, a fantastic journey back to the future.

Re: Presto k8 /cnc motorized harm.

Hello Chany, I'm replying to your post here about PetG and VCA. Your cutting head looks good and the way I see it, your cutting pin is sticking out way too far from the torsion tube. if you mount the pin further in, you would have a much lower VCA (25°). However, I see the problem with the suction t...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

Here’s my angle and set up Hello Chany, Your lathe construction looks very interesting. Especially the long carrier arm with the spring-loaded lever arm. Does the small stepper motor drive a counterbalance or does it lift the carrier arm - or does it do something completely different? The cutterhea...

Re: The farmer and his plow - When I set out to build a record cutter

New CH-9 cutting head (part 4) 10/2023 The "old" cutting head had lighting, but it was not satisfactory. We would call it "glowworms". That's why I planned really bright lighting for the CH-9 and incorporated it into the design. As the head is a lot smaller, it was a bit of a challenge because the ...

An excellent article on the subject of rake angle and VTA by J.I. ... but the overall angle in relation to the disc (so in this case I guess 90+7°) Correct. About 90+7°. (in this case the rake angle is +7°). As far as I could find out, this angle is almost 0° or slightly more for DMM on copper. For cuts in lacquer at 1° to 2°. For cuts in PetG or PVC over 2°. Som...
