Re: Heating cabinet for blanks

I just use a second TT and a second light to pre-heat the next blank to 36c while I'm cutting the current blank.
Does that make sense??

Re: ebay scams be careful!

" “Find a penny pick it up, all the day you’ll have good luck.” You’ve probably heard that little rhyme, right? It actually has a pretty interesting origin. Many ancient cultures believed metals were precious gifts from the gods and would bring you good luck when found. Though pennies are not worth ...

Re: How to eliminate the echo on my VR?

+1 on souris DJ mixer being the problem - there is definitely crosstalk going on with that thing.
I always monitor the cut, but I do it with headphones - Monitoring with speakers could cause a post echo problem.

Re: KNOP lathe DIY build

That looks effing great! I guess I worry the fans will be heard through contact (but I'm sure you've considered that - assuming they're connected to the head somehow) - I guess you could rig another gantry on the same lead screw or belt and have it track along and above your head while blowing down ...

Re: cutting direct from tape. advise needed for studerA80 de

The preview wouldn't be the same as been cut. You would need to mimic the curve of the IPS been cut and all other nuances. I was thinking you would transfer to the DAW after you finalize all the mastering and assuming there is a way to patch into the audio before your cutting amps, and you do a ver...

Re: cutting direct from tape. advise needed for studerA80 de

I'm not all that familiar with the StuderA80 but if there was a way for it to act as either a master or a slave to smpte (or something like it) then you could load a copy of the music into your DAW and have the DAW (as master or slave) provide the 'preview' for your pitch computer - 331/3 or 45 or 1...

What do you guess a 12" or 7" blank would cost making it like this?

Want to buy Souri or Myshank 12" blanks

Hello all... Kind of up against it here, hoping someone can help me out. I need 60 12" Black 2mm or 1.5mm blanks by Thursday, 9/21/17. I'm writing this on Tuesday. Either Souri or Myshank will work. So: 1. you would need to be in the USA. 2. You would need to overnight them to me on Wednesday (I'm o...

Re: wax is there any better?

@ben I have never seen buildup on the diamond, it wipes off cleaner than souris secret sauce. @fredbissnette I have no experience embossing - just cutting with a diamond - so I don't know if staticide will work with embossing. For cutting I spread it on the spinning blank really thin with a microfib...

Re: wax is there any better?

I also use Staticide and find it to be very effective - I use the 'normal strength' which is available on Amazon:

I haven't tried the 'heavy duty' version...

Re: Is stereo embossing possible?

The faceting questions should have been @meltingpotsound :)

Faceting is the shaping and sharpening of the cutter stylus and I'm interested in sharpening my own stylus.
There is a lot of information out there about faceting rocks and gems but I haven't found much info on faceting diamonds.

Re: T560 - What's your method to align a new VR diamond?

I use a stereo microscope too: As you are looking down at the flat front facet of the diamond you can close one eye at a time and see the side facet for that eye-side. If the diamond is aligned correctly the amount of the left and right facet you can see with your left and right eye will be the same...

@marchingband

I am interested in the fact that you were doing faceting -
Would you mind sharing what kind and size of lap you used and at what RPM?
And what material were you faceting?
Thanks...

Re: T560 Modifications - What have you done?

Yes.
I did the stylus heater also.
It's harder than the pitch motor. You have to go in and modify the circuit to get the same kind of access/control.
You can see them both in this picture:

Hello Bryan,

Nice project!

How about the cogging issue?
Is it not a problem because of the gear ratio?

Re: T560 Modifications - What have you done?

Howdy, First thing I did was to hook up a millivolt meter to the motor speed control jack on the back of the main unit so I could get more information on what groove distance I was using. At the same time I also hooked up a ten turn pot with the meter so I could accurately set the groove distance - ...
