Presto K-11 info

I am revisiting my Presto K-11 trying to get it back on line. Does anyone have a schematic /instructions? It is not that hard to figure out but it is always nice to see how it is supposed to be - if anything has been modified - what accessories were available etc. I think I just need a couple of new...

Re: Wobbly Platter

Hello, I'm cutting on a presto k8 and i've been having a little trouble with the groove depth. It seems like the rubber belt on the platter is a little uneven and when the motor shaft hits a high spot on the belt it pushes the platter at a bit of an angle and the grooves cut too shallow (or too dee...

Well, the flat disc was developed in Europe, so why is it not based on a even metric number? Did it get standardized later? Is it a compromise between inch and metric? Who has an original Berliner disc they can measure? My Revox table has a spindle which is just a shade over .285 or so and seems tig...

Flo, in the pictures of the live setup, one is the actual lathe and the other is an old US made Califone (I think) school classroom type player. What was THAT doing there? Were those live video screens or just posters? And on the Thorens lathe ( which I had never seen) is the arm thing on the left f...

In the 50s there was something called a 2 mil. "universal playback" stylus as well. Len H. has showed me some very late 78s that were cut so they could be played with either "standard" or microgroove playback styli, and I believe he has mastered a few 78s for people using that same technology. Don't...

One question is can you cut with NO heat on the stylus as this starting point? I have no experience with pro heated styli lathes, but it is possible to get a quiet cut with no stylus heat on a Rek-O-Kut style machine, I have done it. I am not sure if optimal setup for no heat in terms of stylus ang...

Obscure Lathes

Time for a thread collecting names and info on obscure lathes. Some obscure brands I have heard of are: Radiotone (owned one like this one ebay # 220454153820) Arcturis Cybersonics any info on these or names of others that were in some sort of production (not one off or home built) All of these were...

Well, as such lathes themselves are not stereo or mono, but the system was well into the stereo era. One of the last new lathes designed along with the 2nd generation "THE Lathe" from Scully. I think the actual head used on many of them might have been an Ortofon. They might have built their own amp...

I have at least seen pieces of one disassembled. They were apparently not that good. Too high tech and automated for their era. Or so I have heard.
Think mid 70s computer technology.

Re: tube 45 triode

Anybody--help In a dual triode tube such as the 12ax7, used to amplify both left and right channels, how is channel separation maintained? Is there some sort of partition inside the tube or is it dependent on the distance separating the two sections.? Thanx for any info. ESTG/ They are seperate sec...

Yeah, if you are really after authenitic sound restore it and use it.
The amp circuitry is not that much different than other old PA amps of the era.
If you want to build the mic preamp part, I have the schematic.
Please don't part out a cool machine for another generic tube mic preamp!

Perhaps you can find another Rek-O-Kut turntable or motor that is the same.
They were not uncommon studio or home turntables of the era. The lathe part is the rare item. 16" or 12" table?
