ok some more simple math to spoil the fun: - suppose the galvo is 3 feet (=36 inches) above the disk - disk radius is 6 inches to get the angle that the galvo has to move in order to project the beam to the edge of the disk we use good ole Pyhtagoras: sin alpha = a/c where a = opposite side of the a...

I'm thinking tiny mirrors....... 8) exactly.. on what are called galvos, this is how a laser projector works, and it could provide exactly what you need, especially with a gradient style image that opicode pointed out.. Would only take about 3 seconds to "burn" a record, and it would not even need ...

A laser used in this way would only replace the stylus, not the recording head. Lasers themselves can only make a straight line, so therefor you would have to vibrate the laser in the same way you would a stylus. let me guess, you have also seen the ELP laser turntable?? :P since the laser will not...

Precision of 0.0005" is totally doable. Yes there would be some background noise. Sooner or later there will be more accurate laser etchers. The idea is technically viable. The technology isn't quite there to make it work. But soon. I wasn't saying it's technically not viable, only that with that k...

I already started a VinylPlotter application before I got my lathe. The major issue here is the pixel resolution of the device. With a Laser etcher you can get pretty accurate. But, you would have to have one that could make such small cuts that when the .7 Mil playback stylus rides the cut groove ...

Re: Adapting an USB Vinyl Cutter with sc-99 or sx-74 ?

I wanted to use a laser, and a galvometric scanning head. I used to have access to equipment like that coz of my old job. L33TN355! 8) on topic: couldn't you just bypass the drive electronics for the stepper motor (I guess it's a stepper?) and control it directly for pitch control? If it ca...

In my previous post I stated one would set the machine to inside out for this type of cut and that is incorrect. I get the idea, makes perfect sense actually! You're right, the cutterhead wouldn't need to be flipped, only the platter direction has to be reversed With the extension it will technical...

I read in the Morrison book how they used to run tape backwards into compressors to make it easier for the equipment to handle the transients and reduce thump. Alas, that's where it comes from! I have the Morrison book too, totally forgot it is mentioned there. :D And mossy is right, cannibalizing ...

"Backwards- Mastering"

Hi, I had a few odd thoughts the other day that I would like to discuss. To put it short, I've been thinking about the concept of playing audio backwards at the mastering/cutting phase. Let me outline my train of thought: A basic fact we all know is that any kind of audio consists mostly of transien...

here, I made us a flag.. http://www.djjaybird.com/AUDIO_FLAG.png White coz we are neutral, black circle coz we make records, swords coz we are not to be fucked with, and headphones to show we are an audio operation. Under this I say we fly flags for each nation that is represented on the boat. EPIC...

rant about Pioneer mixers

Back on topic: too low a level CAN be detrimental for a vinyl DJ in certain situations. If you have an unfortunate combination of PA, room and turntables, too high a gain setting will trigger acoustic feedback between PA and turntables. Too quietly cut records are bad in such a situation. Been there...

okay, now we are scheming.. for 1.2 mill USD you can buy a friggen cargo ship.. Then for another Mil or so you can supply it with presses, cutting room, and tons of broadband internet.. Then for like 1/2 a Mil you can buy a smaller cargo ship to actually transport the cargo.. Park this floating fac...
