VMS 80 Vacuum system schematic
This is probably wishful thinking on my part, but does anyone have any info on this? Neumann gives you yards of circuit diagrams, but I don't recall a single mention of anything mechanical, other than how to unpack and assemble it. I know theres a pipe that comes off the turntable spindle, the hose c...

Re: New Tape Machines from Famous Swiss Manufacturer
Madness methinks, will they be duped at 1:1 I wonder? Can visualise a room full of tape decks, a similar scene when they were making VHS cassettes. Hundreds of JVC machines, before Sony Sprinter came along and eliminated them. Any noise reduction , Dolby A (the sound of the 70's) or SR. The majors w...

Re: Microphonic records Polydor ???
well... assuming a 1.5 mil basic depth and as little land as the flatness of the lacquer will allow,
I would think around 450 LPI. Compress the music, use a high pass and low end compatibility.
Maybe it was a juke box record...

Re: Transco Lacquers and Styli
I too had some old Transco's made in NJ and figured I'd try them to 'wear in ' a new recent vintage stylus. Trouble was these were totally dried out and did slightly more than lap the burnishing facets! It all got very grey, but eventually got quieter when using new lacquers. Initially thought I'd w...

Re: Transco Lacquers and Styli
Is everyone here who commented using Apollo's? Any Transco users? Just wondering if Apollo's look any better, since they are slightly softer.

Re: Transco Lacquers and Styli
I hear ya! Put an old 320 in with 20 hrs on it, (which still looked ok when I changed it)
Looks better than a new (A 3469) !! You're right, it is a crapshoot. Trouble is I'm running out of used ones!
They ain't cheap either...

Re: Transco Lacquers and Styli
Installed a 320 number A3386, poorly finished, noisy, very streaky with Transco's. Discovered an older 320, which I had hidden for occasions like this , number A2395 .Perfect! Clean and quiet, so it seems the recent batch aren't really up to it. Lets hope they address this problem sooner rather than...

Transco Lacquers and Styli
Anyone notice how streaky Transco's are nowadays? They're quiet and the sound is ok, but they look like hell under the scope! Some of the styli are leaving swarf fragments on the groove edges. This disappears once they are processed though. The styli also seem to leave tram lines right out of the bo...

No, I've never seen it and if there are prototypes, I don't know who is evaluating them.
Was Lex in Holland ever involved in testing one? Perhaps I'm imagining it!
