Re: Looking to sell a Cutting System
Thank you, Emily, that's my system, been hyper-absorbed in it for about 18 months. There will be more pics and stuff as I shoot them, but I want to thank Len Horowitz especially for opening his shop to me, furnishing me with every scrap of data he has, both written and spoken, and generally being a ...

Re: Studer A-80 repair
Yay! I'd contemplate a recap of all electrolytics and tantalums. Did this on the 24 track, cured a large pile of ills in one go!

Yes, they are, and either manual should work. How about the other pwr rails?

Re: Studer A-80 repair
I'd check the pass transistors for the logic PSU, they're on the deck casting. Do you have a manual? I have two A80 multis, and they're pretty solid. Also the Frako electrolytics are probably suspect, simply due to age. I MAY have an extra manual for the A80-16, which would largely apply... have to ...

Re: Westrex RA-1574-A power spike
I have the same situation with my 1574E amps - it's output stage bias circuit related, annoying but not harmful. Plan to do a mod for this at some point, will share result at that time.

Re: ZA-21 Light
I find I can't wade through all the blegthorpe in this thread, so here's MY dos centavos: It's an incandescent lamp. ANY PSU will do, AC or DC. The pattern in the glass is like a gobo: no defined pattern edges; a frosted lamp would probably do as well. It's that 45 degree angle that matters... If yo...

Re: Open source digital vinyl system timecode experiement
Hmmm.... I suppose one could cut slew-rate limited SMPTE code (in mono), and get an absolute time ref, and the word geometry would tell the system which way we're going.... [square waves don't cut well - any more than they did when striping TC to tape] You could use an old Fostex synchronizer to bot...

Re: Open source digital vinyl system timecode experiement
I am willing to bet that the data is identical on both channels, save for a 90 degree phase offset (quadrature). This enables the system to tell which direction of rotation the disc is currently experiencing. I would guess that the signals are zero-cross detected, and thus speed and direction are ex...

IMNSHO, that would be precisely what I'd tell 'em! Pretty easy cut, seems to me. Like a bi-phase encoder on vinyl... Best of luck!!!

Re: Looking to cut Dubs in Chicago
Perhaps I may be able to do you some good: I am in the last stages of bringing a Scully tube system to life, fully MIDI automated using Nuendo (my bread&butter workstation) and Crestron processors and touchscreens. The only thing left is variable pitch/depth, still restoring the 261C, but fixed pitc...
