Ebay : Presto Model K with Audax head

It's in New Hampshire, they're asking $880 and it ends in less than 24 hours.

Re: Lazaretto?

What rsimms3 said about the "under-label grooves" - the label is pressed right into the grooves. The sound quality, while audible, is understandably poor, like an old Wilcox-Gay Recordio with a bad cutting stylus. Does anyone with a camera hooked up to their lathe scope want to throw this album on t...

Lazaretto?

I'm not sure whether to post this here or in the Experimenters' subforum, it seems to be a cutting experiment gone horribly right and successful. I finally got my hands on a copy of Jack White's Lazaretto "Ultra LP", and I'm left scratching my head just as much as I was before: how on earth did they...

Rough Presto 1C on Ebay

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/331408984183?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

Not my auction, I sold my 1C over a decade ago. And this one looks pretty rough cosmetically, but the coils appear to test good. The auction ends this afternoon, it will be interesting to see what it goes for.

Re: Home Central Vaccum System for lathe Vaccum System?

I knew of someone who had a system like this for cutting - the chip jar was behind the lathe as per usual, but was connected to a series of PVC pipes through walls to a vacuum pump in the garage, one floor above and one room over. It was much more pleasant than having the vacuum in the same room as ...

Re: Cutting nitemares? Am I alone?

Steve nudged me to post one I had last night. Before I went to bed I was ordering from Third Man Records' Cyber Monday sale plus a couple of their direct-to-acetate LPs, shortly after I watched video of Len Horowitz cutting sides for Dionysus Records on his Scully. Then I fell asleep and dreamed I w...

Re: Presto 1-C or 1-D differences?

When my 1D was working, it had a "hole" at around 14.5 or 15 kHz and the frequency response had peaks and valleys, but aside from the 15k hole it could easily be EQ'd flat all the way up to 22 khz and probably well beyond. (I never found how high the secondary resonance actually was.) You had to hit...

Re: Looking to sell a Cutting System

A bit of a necropost because this system got sold awhile ago, but it looks like the folks who bought it did an amazing job of getting it up and running. Here it is at work - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1sUExh7JO2g - watch that pitch knob go! Touchscreen automation too.

Constantine 1x03 - The Devil's Vinyl

I haven't been able to watch it yet (I'm outside of the US), but apparently this aired the other night: an episode about a haunted acetate with the voice of the devil, that kills anyone who listens to it. http://imgur.com/a/aYfXo

Re: Starting cutting again with a Rek-O-Kut/ Presto in Canad

The lathe is still kaput (both available cutterheads broken and me working on other projects), as it has been for the past six months, but here's a piece of "fanart" I did about a year ago, which I'd been wanting to make since 2007 or 8. It gives a good idea of what a Rek-O-Kut/ Presto setup can do ...

One thousand locked grooves, and 1 1/2" records

(Not on the same record, thank goodness.) I found a couple of videos of Paul Brekus at Aardvark hard at work making experimental records for clients. I have no idea why the lacquer is so ridiculously off-center in the second clip, but I guess there must be a good reason. I'm impressed - I shudder to...
