Thanks! I figured it was something simple like that. I haven't had time to dig into it yet, but the mechanism cant be too complex.

Got a handcranker for Christmas
A 1917 Victor Victrola XVI. Still works, but the spring makes a clunky sound sometimes and the speed adjustment doesn't seem to work very well. https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xap1/v/t1.0-9/p600x600/10898261_10202070932015124_1716599867282715679_n.jpg?oh=4898eeb829766f2514a0a53f769...

My k-10 did that when the capacitors went bad. I swapped them all out in a couple of hours for about 50$.

Re: Leaning back on a K8 (setting cutterhead angle)
I'm assuming you already have the head mounted as low as it will go in the carriage? Perhaps you could add a mat to the turntable to bring the cutting plane up to the head

Re: Leaning back on a K8 (setting cutterhead angle)
I use sapphires for cutting and dull sapphires reversed for embossing on a k-10 witha 1-c head. I've never had to lean back more than 10-15 degrees to get a good cut. For regular cutting the manual calls for 5-10 degrees. In my experience using a long needle to get 30 degrees just robs you of high f...

Yes I was cutting. I can't really give you an idea on needle life though, I was cutting a lot of different media at the time so I cant give a specific answer on that.

Re: K 8 Tire
I'm sure someone has already tried this, but there are a variety of size belts for riding lawnmowers and such available at hardware stores that are close in width and thickness (The local stores anyway, not so much Lowe's or Home Depot). I haven't compared them closely but it might be worth a shot. ...

Re: Acrylic Cutting?
I've gotten good results on acrylic with a sapphire. IMO, it sounds better than embossing on poly. there's just a tiny bit of hiss, almost none if your sapphire is good and sharp, but the higher frequencies come out cleaner (at least on my machine). It does wear out your needles more than other medi...

Yeah that's steep. Fair value's about half that, probably less since it needs work.

Re: Replacing Presto K10 rubber tire
Are you sure its the tire causing the vibrations? I've had similar issues on my k-10 and it turned out to be a burr on the worm gear. My tire does have a couple of flat spots so I went down that path for a while before figuring out the real culprit. I'm assuming your spindle and gears are well greas...

Re: One for All the Math Geniuses
how about this for a solution: have it play" no one else will ever love you" and skip on "ever love you (pop) ever love you (pop) ever love you".....etc until (gunshot) "the way I do" I think it'd be pretty close to a 33 rpm skip and have the intended effect.

Re: Presto K8 on eBay!
I'm pretty sure someone has posted the manual in the reference section and it should have schematics. Most likely if it's not outputting then it needs the capacitors replaced, which isn't a tough job if you can handle a soldering iron. I did my k-10 in a couple of hours for under 50$ and it sounds n...
