I use an old Army band 16" transcription record that I got at a flea market. Covers the whole platter.

Too bad, Dave from Lucky Lacquers used to be out in your neck of the woods I think. He's back in the midwest now. I'm on the east coast. If you really want to stay on your coast you might give JJ Golden a call.

Hey Chris - I passed this info on to some punk rock pals in Florida. They love records and are not afraid of getting dirty. It might be a perfect fit.

Well those are the gurus, so it must be true. I took Al's advice on the oil mixture and the general position of the nut. I experimented a little bit but seemed to get it locked in pretty soon after.

I think the setting is likely different for every lathe. I had the same squeaking in the beginning too. I think mine is set somewhere in the middle. I'm using the light/heavy oil mixture. Never heard of the situation where the silicone would seep into the head - how would it get there?

You've alluded to this plant a few times in previous posts. Were you involved in its' development?

What are you hearing in the program? Is this harsh noise/atonal music? Are you suggesting you think some sort of "invisible" out-of-band noise is causing the freak out?

Very suspicious - there are a bunch of these for sale here all at once. What's going on? They hardly every come up for sale. All the photos are basically the same.

I don't use them, but I also...don't have them. I own a pair but they are uncalibrated at the moment and out of the chain. I use a Maselec MPL-2 here for the high-frequency limiting work. This unit or the MDS-2 (no peak limiter in this version) are the best "third-party" hardware solutions I know of...

What's wrong with the Lyrec motor? If it's in good condition and hooked up correctly there shouldn't be any problems. And the Technics motor is unobtainable anyway - no need to spend time fantasizing about that one.

I cut but I didn't do any of these records. So you were comparing the vinyl to the CD versions at matched levels, right?

Ah, so this is Scully's "The Lathe" - never had the luck to see one in person. Nice to hear it runs. Looks like an interesting scope system. What a beast! It looks lonely sitting there with no lacquer on it. Was this formerly at DiscMakers?

I had also heard that the Neumann disc cutting division never made any money for the company. I can see why - I'm still using this VMS70 today and I hope to keep it running for much longer. Apparently I saved $450,000 by not buying it in 1975.

If someone manufactures a feednut solution there will be plenty of buyers. I'm sure we could get a big group just on this board. Remember - there are square and round halfnut types, so the solution would have to offer both shapes. Depending on the price, I bet each Neumann lathe owner on this board ...
