Re: Perfect groove and stylus velocity warning
Allowing bursts of 10ms at 105 cm/s. With these numbers in mind, 10 cm/s seems like a very conservative setting? There is a difference between the velocity a cutterhead can cut (in theory and according to a specification sheet from 50 yrears ago at absolut frightening limits just below destruction)...

Re: JE-1D Version 356
the heads being way way way too low impedance.. Are the coils wired in series or parallel? If parallel then try to do series and you should be right at 4 Ohms DC resistance which should be a little nicer to the amp... Also the plot looks really nice to me - a moving iron cutter looks different than...

Re: Documenting key events in the history of vinyl record making from 1990 to 2015
I think there has been quite some change in this quarter century period! Unfortunately I was not there in the 90s, but from my understanding these were the wild west years. Big companys closed their factories due to low or no demand and the people with love and understanding for this media had the c...

Thanks for Reply!
Luckily we already have a DBTL20 in the studio, so bass and treble limiting...
Have you ever needed bass limiting?

Re: line level signal 2 high impedance signal?
Hi! Actually input impedance and signal level are 2 different things.. But if you say that the level on the cutting amp is near maximum (I assume from a jumping VU meter on the map) then there is 2 things: - either the power amp is weak (like having end of life power tubes or so...) - or more likely...

Re: Grampian type C - Connecting wires
Hi Michaela! Not critical with the type C as it is non feedback. Just screw back in the 2 wires from the amp into the the 2 terminals at the back of the head (screws from top I think...) In the perfect universe you want to check the absolute phase of the system, depends on how critical you are... Ho...

Re: Ortofon DS 522 feedback preamp
The 511 was before the 541 and used different tubes (rimlock socket type instead of noval) and also has different design (different eq, different fb...) There's even older ones but very little information around. I'm always on the hunt for anything regarding our hobby so happy to become your scannin...

Dead or Alive Material or Myths... Made in Denmark, or at least with some connection to it ;-) Curious what's out there. Feel f...

Re: White noise cutting
Hey Coccolino! Not a Vestax owner, but always wanted to own one or at least see it in reallity... As said maybe the most straight forward approach is to use MyShank stuff. I'm not sure if there's a good supply for vestax stuff as the company is gone for years.. I'm in europe, feel free to pm or so i...

Re: White noise cutting
Hi Coccolino! Interesting to hear you have a VRX2000 - not many around in usage! From my deeper understanding the original Harmodisk and Vestax stylus combination was working quite good, but is obsolete since Vestax has passed years ago... I don't know if there's new "Harmodisks" made - where do you...

Re: Need A Cut on VMS80 for Wide Pitch Cut
Oddly enough, I am actually bound by a NDA on this one so I can't get too deep into it on a public forum. That sounds bad! Sad that the public has to be asked for advise, but the real information stays secret... Ideally I would like to be able to specify a variable pitch but for the next cut a fixe...

Re: Need A Cut on VMS80 for Wide Pitch Cut
Hi Dave! Interesting project - if I'm allowed to ask, what is the purpose? You said that you want to test "tracking ability" but I don't get how this record would tell you something about it. At 1mm pitch per revolution (which takes 1,8 seconds @ 33 1/3 rpm) the groove velocity (and accelaration rel...

Re: I need a bigger amp, but how big?
Hi! Hard to say exact number of how many watt an amp need to cut a decent record, but for most cases somthing of approx. 100watt should be enough! With regards to your system I see a couple of things: - Is the cutting head in good working condition? That means the magnet is still strong, the coil is...

Re: Lathe Build - Disengaging Motor From Lead Screw - HELP !
I have made similair systems with just one motor - Not crazy fast but unless you have to cut 3 LPs per hour it's ok.. Good motor and good electronics needed. Not the cheapest, but as usual you get what you pay... just disengage the carriage from the leadscrew and move by hand as on VMS70 Standard if...

Re: tell me your experiences with the elliptical equaliser
Hmm, interesting graphs! But I'm not sure if all the said is really true: the curves with less attenuation are smoother and less steep. less steep equals lower phase shift. the curves with less attenuation don’t reach as much into the midrange. Your graph shows combined response. One being the EEQ, ...
