Re: Universal Cutter Head patent Information

I couldn't find the patent by googling the number you mentioned, are you sure it's complete/correct? Does anyone have general information on these "Universal" machines? What is the full name of the company? Is it related to Bill Putnam / Universal Audio ? (I suppose not) It would be nice to collect ...

Re: When cutting a record, which channel has inverted polari

Hi, Perhaps I'm missing something here. But since L-R is the vertical component of the stereo signal cut into a groove. If you built a difference amp that produced the L-R signal (simple), then when you drop the needle its vertical motion will yield a leading edge positive voltage if captured on a ...

Re: When cutting a record, which channel has inverted polari

Great thread!!!! :D (btw, in 1964 NAB Standard there is no "inverted" in the whole text...) Well, strictly speaking you are right Lukas, there is no direct mention of this. The question is effectively avoided. There is no reference to the absolute polarity of the channels. Stereophonic Groove Charac...

wow, I never checked back on this thread, and failed to notice this post those are some really nice pictures, thank you for sharing! Does anybody have any documentation or manuals related the AM31? I have asked a lot of people about AM31 manuals to no avail. It seems that no one has any. Some more p...

Re: Replicas

I wish you luck. Stereo is a lot more complicated than mono. Very little will carryover from the one to the other. Why not make my metal parts for Bladerunner? Also this thread probably should reside in the experimenters section. Moderator? agreed, this is not the right place for this fantastic thr...

Master's thesis about disc cutting project

Dear fellow Trolls, some of the veteran members maybe remember this old thread I started almost six years ago: http://lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=1484 I joined this forum at the time to find information and help to do a recording project on a Neumann AM31. I knew next to nothing about record...

Re: Need help with acoustic recording soundbox

I didn't think wax could be played back, but rather had to be used for the processing of molds, stampers, etc. The 1943 Neumann electroacoustic pocketbook mentions special light- weight pickups for wax playback. There is also a picture of a wax shaving machine, with which a wax can be cleared for a...
