Re: RIAA CURVE

If I can revive an old thread just to confirm something that seems obvious to me - in order to run a power amp, you need a preamp, yes? Is this where the mixer is coming into play? I want to run the same sort of set up as JayDC and use my computer as the source, essentially using that to "master" w...

Re: RIAA CURVE

I'm still not 100% on this so maybe someone can confirm, but the way I'm now understanding it, for someone not using a high end Neumann head (or similar) a preamp would not be needed as the cutting signal is already at line level, which then can be fed directly to the power amp? Isn't the job of a p...

Re: New Embossing Stylus!

Hello all! Some of you already know that I was experimenting on an "New" type of embossing stylus! Having experiments on Tungsten and Sapphire stylus so long I realize the Pro & Cons of each stylus. The classic TUNGSTEN stylus we all know, is the cheapest way to start with! Mine is 21mm long , 1.6m...

Re: Glad about my 1st release

Really very glad about my first official vinyl release! After a contact with Thanos of Lost Bodies (GR) we agreed for a short lathe cut run of 20 copies of their 2008 album " The end of time"! The original album consists of a 73min single track so there was a need for edit and remaster for my needs...

RIAA Filter build help

Hi all - I'm trying to build Flo's RIAA encoder (found here: http://floka.com/lofi/riaa_enc_flo.jpg) and am a little confused about where the dual power source connects versus where the input for the audio signal is. Using J111 JFETs. I'd assume it's somewhere on the + & - obviously, but not sure wh...

Re: Caruso RIAA pre-amp Power Supply?

Can any trolls recommend a suitable power supply to run the Caruso RIAA pre-amp (version 1.1) ? You should go with a +-15 volt supply, 100ma minimum for 2 boards. Here is my "go to" supply. Go with an Acopian DB15-XX where XX is either 10 (for 100ma) or also available as a 15 (150ma), 20 (200ma), 3...

FS: Audax/Presto cutterhead

Selling a Presto-labeled Audax head. Works great, wound to 8 ohms. Attached is a sample cut (embossing) I did with it on my ROK M5 with Piaptk sapphire stylus/blank just to show what it can do. I didn't take a lot of time to dial it in, but was surprised by the amount of high end crispness. Stylus N...

Re: Embossing: high frequency loss in inner grooves

Thanks for the reply! I should have mentioned that that was also a consideration... is that something that differs with embossing from cutting? I know there is loss in fidelity as you cut inwards, but not that kind of loss in HF. Playing records I notice the sound just tends to get kinda grainy.

Embossing: high frequency loss in inner grooves

Hi all - reaching out for some help with a strange issue I've encountered in my embossing learning. I have a ROK M5 with a Presto 1D and I'm learning to emboss with a sapphire stylus. I'm starting to get some great results but I'm realizing that as I cut inwards, I'm losing high frequency response, ...

Great info - that’s a good point about oil being a dust magnet for the leadscrew....don’t want that. I’ll just apply it to the gears then. Thanks!

Re: RekOKut Imperial II restoration project

Jesus - beautiful restoration! very meticulous and thorough. Jesus, Grooveguy, et al. - what sort of lubrication is recommended for the overhead? It seems like it would be wise to put something in the gears on either end of the feedscrew. The ROK manual says to use "Rek-O-Oil" on the Guide Bar and T...
