Cut turns out in mono (Angulo system)
Hello guys! I'm trying to check whether the polarity of my head drivers is correct, after messing around a little with the wires. I know if I feed a mono signal, the movement of the saphire should be lateral. I'm feeding a 10hz sine wave to see it be eye. But I'm not sure what should I see if I feed...

Re: Angulo Records lathes of Argentina....wah huh?
Hi Steve! I can add that I don't know anybody else who has the machine. I'm still learning, as you said. At the moment, I don't have the system fully installed (I lacked a proper turntable at first, working on that now, and also lacking the heat lamps and a good vacuum for the chip pickup), so I can...

Re: Groove pictures
I will try with the good ruby this week, I'm waiting for the heat lamps so I can work with the proper temperature of the disc. I'm not using heat on the stylus. The pictures are all the same exact magnification, just adjusted a bit the focus, but its the same x factor. That's how the records look at...

Re: Groove pictures
Hello Al! Yes I'm trying to get some answers from this guy, with variable luck. Unfortunately he is moving to another country and he's not answering right now. I will ask for a reference record made with the machine, it's a very good idea. I also have another stylus (a ruby) which is brand new. I'm ...

Groove pictures
Hi! I took some photograps with the USB microscope, at around 200x, of several records. Trying to compare the grooves I'm recording with some others. Picture039.jpg Picture043.jpg Picture044.jpg On the sound, the first is noisy because it's a beat up record. The second one has a little noise, but so...

Re: Brush technique
Hello Opcode, I don't believe I'm dealing with static, this is a kind of plastic record, pvc or vinyl at some percentage. I have not tried with PC yet but I'm planning to. I'm getting the hand at the brush and with the correct weight and temperature it seems to go well. BTW I saw your very informati...

Re: Brush technique
Hi!
I will try then with something that blows gently, so the chip goes all to the same side towards the center of the record.
This discs are suppossedly vinyl, but are pressed with less pressure or less heat, because they are softer and lighter than comercial records.
Kind regards!

Brush technique
Hello! I'm having problems to get a good suction from my vacuum (I guess is not powerful enough, and also incredibly noisy), so I am now experimenting with a brush to keep the chip away, as I read some people do. I'm cutting on vinyl discs, which are softer than regular pressed discs. Is there a bes...

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
I happened to have an old Ken Brown stereo with a turntable that was easily separated from the furniture. Amazingly, it has plenty of torque! Not sure about the stability, but i have yet to worry about that. Now I'm producing chip, and noisy grooves with my broken zaphire, until I get a hang on how ...

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
Hi tragwag,
Do you think there are chances of modifying a 1200 turntable to improve in regards the running torque? It appears to be an easy mod http://www.turntabletech.com/mechmods.htm
Perhaps combining this with a heavier plate can bring the 1200 to an acceptable performance?
Kind regards
Miguel

Re: Schematic for head connections
Hello opcode66 and markrob, and thanks a lot for your replies, I have some points much more clear now! So the tiny sound is to be expected, that makes sense and is good to know. There are 4 wires going to the head, and there are also 2 more wires that go to the heater (that part works ok). So it see...

Re: Schematic for head connections
I think there is something broken on this, I dont believe is normal to share a wire between the coils, unless it goes to ground (which is not) and in that case why the other wire is going to ground? This machine I bougth untested so Im trying to troubleshoot, but I'm pretty lost at the moment. It is...

Schematic for head connections
Hi! I tried with the search, but it seems I can't find a suitable information. What I need to know is how the power amplifier is supposed to be connected to the cutting head. I'm assuming this head uses two drivers or speakers, but the wire connections does not seem to make much sense to me (there a...

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
I believe you should have plenty of torque with that turntable (I hope so because the one I'm getting is pretty much the same turntable), acording to what I've been told. I read somewhere that you can increase the torque by changing a resistor, maybe you should check into that?

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
I'm still intending to shoot a video with my camera phone, but still could not get this thing running. Hopefully a friend will bring a 1200 turnatble with enough torque to try a cut without manually spinning the plate, later this week.
Kind regards!

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
Yes, the head looks very different. This machine is built from scratch, I'm told, as few if any vinyl recording hardware is still available in Argentina. So far I haven't been very succesfull with it (at the moment, only have recorded noisy grooves), mostly because I'm still learning the process and...

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
Hi, here are a few pics I have on my cellphone. I'll try to shoot a video with it on the weekend, to show how my turntable fails to spin under the pressure. The photos don't show it on the cutting process, just different angles of the machine. IMG_20140723_103520.jpg IMG_20140723_103440.jpg IMG_2014...

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
I'll post a few pics tomorrow, very different machine to the one on that vms poland threads.
The numerics pad and usb input is for automation, of groove width, track separation and such. I did not try that yet, as I'm operating in manual mode. Well, still trying, to be precise.
Kind regards

Re: Torque needed to spin a vinyl cut
I tried a search about "JP", all it came up was this thread http://www.lathetrolls.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4977
But I can tell you, my machine does not have the least resemblance to the one mentioned in that thread.
Kind regards
Miguel
