Re: Viryl Not Responding To Us
Hi Trolls! We put a deposit down on presses from Viryl Technology about 16 months ago, we cant get them to respond to us. Has their business activities seized? I hope we aren't out money that would be terribly unfortunate. We were looking very much to having pressing inhouse. I see other thread of ...

Re: The dreaded dimples
You have foreign particles between the mould and the stamper and these will leave an impression on the disc or you have "nickel knobs" on the back of the stamper which were not polished out when the stamper was back sanded. Nothing new about using compressed air but it must be filtered close to the ...

Re: the name for small dent / hollow surface of a record
We always called it a dimple. Our American friends might call it a divot.
They will sound like a low frequency thump, as per your comparison to a kick drum
The question is... why are you getting them? How do you clean the mould and the back of the stamper?

Yes, many pressing plants work like this.
To be successful in this business you must remember that they are "records" and NOT "vinyls".

It's called "Crow's Feet". Contamination in the bath solution is giving you stress. It usually appears in the run-out groove. It is not thought to be related to silvering. What happens when you plate a nickel matrice in the same bath?

Re: Rough edges on pressings / Dull trim tool ?
Good point, JJ. Being the first you notice about a pressing, it's quite off-putting.
American auto presses mostly have a rotary trimmer followed by a burnishing tool for a nice smooth edge.
I detect some laziness here.

Re: New auto pressing machines comparison
A lot of users of Pheenix Alpha presses don't use them and you'll note that they produce a perfectly consistent stack of of 100 evenly spaced records without sagging or dishing. The Alpha design also allows the record to cool while suspended in free air for a few seconds before being stacked. This r...

Re: Need help for Pressing Machine Building.
You won't fully understand the full process by next week. There is a two year learning curve so you will be learning something new every day for the next two years and then you will still not know everything - you just need to know who to ask. Just follow the advice of the press manufacturers. They ...

Re: Need help for Pressing Machine Building.
Don't worry - its not like you get to choose if you will use an air compressor or not.
If you do this job, you will be buying an air compressor.
Always follow the advice of the press manufacturer.

Re: Need help for Pressing Machine Building.
1 - I don't know those presses but most steam and water valves are air actuated. In some presses, an air cylinder pushes the centre pin in the mould up. The trimmer often uses air too, as does the opening and closing of the extruder cup. You also need to blow dust off the back of the stamper just be...
