Re: Vanrock and embossing
May I ask what media you are embossing on? Are you putting on enuff weight? PVC from RECORDBLANKS.COM How much weight should I be using? I'm not sure I have heard an example of what embossing with a steel cone should sound like but there seems to be way more surface noise than I was expecting and e...

Vanrock and embossing
So far I have not had much luck with embossing with the Vanrock.. I mean it'll do it but it's super noisey. From what I understand you want to angle the cone against the direction of the disc is turning by 7-20 degrees. There doesn't appear to be anyway to adjust the angle of the head on the Vanrock...

Re: Should the board have more sub-forums?
I'll welcome more subsections like you suggest; Neumann, Scully, Presto, and Souri's vinyl recorder. I personally like the site Muffwiggler (modular synthesizers) which is divided in several sections covering different type of systems. With each system covering several brands. It also has a marketp...

Re: the 3 pin jack.. I have my doubts about that actually being XLR This record may have been made in the mid 40's and the XLR connector was originally a product of Cannon Electric and did not evolve fully until maybe the early 50's? Anyway I found this auction for a photofact service manual which y...

Re: Vanrock Recorder E-101
I'm considering unmounting the head from the Vanrock chassis adding longer wires and mounting it on a separate lead screw with a fullsize turntable to cut mono 12" records.

Re: Help with my Newley accuired cutter
I also noticed the RCA cables that connect heads are pretty bad shape. So I had planned on salvaging a modern RCA cable to get better connection and sound but the older one Seems longer am I imagining that ? Or will it even make a difference? For now I just repaired the old crusty cables Should wor...

Vanrock Recorder E-101
I recently acquired a Vanrock and most everything about it seems self explanatory except the ENDING function. From what I can gather this will do a run out groove and then a locked groove to keep the stylus from skating across the center into the spindle. The lockout is in a fixed position but mine ...

Re: DIY vinyl with silicone molds and casting resin
I've been experimenting with casting records from resin as well. I have a degasser for the rubber mold (I'm using Smoothon 30) which definitely helped reduce surface imperfections in the mold but I'm still getting too many pops in the resulting cast. I'm not sure if the pops are coming from just the...

Re: A bit on the BBC about my project in Europe
Not sure where the static at the beginning came from (wasn't in the cut). Seems like they added it to signal that the audio was changing because otherwise the listener probably would not really notice.. I think she says at the end "I can't cope with the static" even though there's really only a few...

Re: Welcome, Newbies! Say Hi in this thread!
Hello, I've been lurking for awhile but I recently acquired a Vanrock and I've also been researching building a DIY lathe. I'm based in Los Angeles.
I'm also considering selling blanks because I may have access to a CNC cutter.

Looks like a design student's thesis on what it might look like rather than an actual plan to build it.
