Re: Rapid vertical movement w VR

You've probably already checked this but is your lead screw well lubricated?
If I let my VR go too long between lubrication, I can see unusual patterns in my grooves.

Re: Anyone tried a NSK DD servo motor for a platter driver?

Very interesting Motor...
I haven't seen these before but it looks like there are a lot of things about it that might make a good platter drive.
My first question would be how quiet is it?
Any noise at all from the bearings or the motor?

Re: VR torque problem with blanks bended

Those turntables sometimes don't have enough torque. Souri's 'Precision Plate' can help. or get an SP-10 :) or Cut a shallower groove: Cut with lower weight - less than 10 grams - go as light as you can while still getting nice grooves. Cut with the discs at a lower temperature - 36 centigrade. (thi...

Re: EQing for flat cuts on T560

@markrob, I have a related question I've been wondering about for a while: Since the high-frequency response of the outside(towards the edge) of the record is noticeably better than the high-frequency response of the inside(towards the label) where do you cut the testones/testnoise for your EQing? I...

Re: Vinylrecorder stylus damage

. Strangest thing of all is that sometimes, stylus I had discarded because they where noisy later on were perfectly usable again. Can’t understand why. I've had this happen also. My theory is that when you put the 'bad' stylus back in the head the stylus is in a slightly different position so the de...

Re: Weird 'squeaky' sound in sides?

Your stylus can get broken on your first cut  Did you put it down too hard? Did you set-up the 45gram counterweight with the stylus taking the force? :( Are you using too much stylus heat - getting melted plastic on the cutting surface? Did you examine the stylus carefully BEFORE you put it in ...

Re: Phantom high end in side/stereo causing distortion?

Yes it can. A damaged stylus will usually create a hissing sound in one side of your stereo audio (easier to hear with headphones) and panned all the way left or right. Actually sounds like it's not part of the mix, because it's not :) Turn off your amp and cut a silent groove so you can really hear...

Re: Clicks & Pops VR issue / not on playback

Off topic but - tuning between stations on the AM radio in your car is interesting when you are driving with thunderstorms in the (near) distance. You see the lightning with your eyes and hear the static burst over the radio at the same time - the BOOM comes later. It's weirdly satisfying...

Re: A simple and inexpensive stereo cutter YOU can build!

Well, you know, we work with what we know and what we got, and you seem to be getting it done.
So there!
How about using a ruler and just getting 'close enough' measurements of the main parts - the back plate, the blocks, the exciters?
That would be pretty helpful...

Re: noise issues with VR

That's happened to me several times - you just have to keep moving/changing things till you find the source, could be a cable, the routing of a cable, a wall wart or ...?.
I eventually went to a dedicated 12v supply just for the main unit which helped a lot...
Happy hunting!
