Re: Twinning

Robert K Morrison uses the term in his book when describing visual patterns on a cut disc. Different patterns can indicate signs of trouble, for instance a moire pattern can indicate a low frequency rumble, etc. Again, from memory (I'm at work) I believe twinning indicates a feedscrew that is not in...

Re: Magic fluids for home cutters (DuoTone)

A hot stylus produces a harder groove surface and a longer lasting disc?

Here's another reference from the same website. Last sentence of first section:

Re: Magic fluids for home cutters (DuoTone)

Here is a reference I found a while ago. About midway down the page, it states to "be sure to apply the preservative solution immediately after recording if long record life is desired".

Re: Microphonic records Polydor ???

It seems to me that the term Microphonic refers to the fact that there is up to 15 minutes recorded on one side of a 7 inch disc. I haven't done the math, but the groove pitch must be pretty tight to get 15 minutes on a 7 inch side. My guess is that it didn't work well and was short lived. I've neve...

Here's another one playing all the way thru. It doesn't seem to make its way to 78 rpm-ish at the end.

Re: anyone know?

Sorry for the multiple posts. Just found this online:

http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/theoretical-question-about-turntable-speed.204430/

It doesn't explain how it was done, but does identify it as World Records. Maybe a rubber roller on the playback arm driving the disc?

Re: Presto 1-C or 1-D differences?

The Robert K Morrison book states that the 1D used a different damping material. The 1C used Viscaloid, which hardened with age. The 1D used Prestoflex, which was more stable over a longer period of time. They were both available as 15 or 500 ohms.

Re: Recordioi issue

Sounds like the grooves aren't deep enough. There is a screw on top of the cutter arm that adjusts the spring tension and will effect the weight of the cutter, making the grooves shallow or deep. Also, when cutting, the screw that locks the stylus into the head should be floating around the center o...

Re: Need help with acoustic recording soundbox

The unit has a wax playback sound box? I didn't think wax could be played back, but rather had to be used for the processing of molds, stampers, etc. Isn't that why there was uncoated aluminum, and why lacquer coated discs made such an impact on the industry? Looking forward to others' comments abou...

Re: Gluing/Glueing acetates together?

I recently read that labels used to be affixed to instantaneous discs with acetone (nail polish remover). It stated that if the label was wet with acetone, the lacquer would become the glue when it was applied. I haven't tried it, and probably won't, but if that's true, perhaps some carefully applie...

Re: laminated discs...

Curley, I took your suggestion and laminated some card stock, but I used the self stick laminate, not the heat seal type. I couldnt' get any usable cuts from it. The noise was incredibly high and drown out any signal that may have been recorded. Was worth a shot.
