Re: Hi everybody, Jed Here from Poland, Presto K-10
Does it have all four worm gears? They should be located under the platter.

Re: rek-o-kut help
Have you tested this with the platter back on? If this is like the Presto, you can't check it without putting the platter back on because it has a dual pivot. When the platter is back on it takes up the slack between the rubber roller and what's called the capstan, the pulley on top of the motor.

Re: Presto MS16 help, guidance, encouragement needed
Well, that's a little bit of consolation that you could get a new feedscrew manufactured to replace yours, assuming you can get the setscrew out and the feedscrew out of the sleeve. But, this doesn't help with regard to lead-in/lead-out grooves. Try sending a message to Mike (piaptk) above, he had a...

Re: Presto MS16 help, guidance, encouragement needed
The good: It's not a half-nut carriage. The bad: It is a 6D overhead assembly (as Mike indicated above) and having an inside out screw is bad news for you. The 6D overheads had a feedscrew that had the gear at the end permanently attached, press fit. I have a weird 6D type feedscrew system that has ...

Re: advice on cutting needle for BSR DR33C
Perhaps you need a short shank stylus. Presto uses a long shank, the DR33C manual calls for a stylus no longer than 5/8" in length. I don't know off the top of my head if this is long or short stylus. If you don't already have the manual for the DR33C, there's a link here on the board if you do a se...

Re: Presto MS16 help, guidance, encouragement needed
In the earliest days they would cut from the inside out so that the swarf would tangle in the center around the spindle and not get in the way of the cut. Later, vacuum was added so cuts started from the outside in. Then they added heat to the stylus where the vacuum would help with cooling the styl...

Re: Presto MS16 help, guidance, encouragement needed
It looks like you have everything you need mechanically to get it going, just need to clean/lubricate everything appropriately and get a cutting head. I assume there's a motor in there given I can see the capstan sticking up to engage the rubber idlers but I didn't see a power cord. Even if the 33.3...

Re: ATOM A101 clueless newbie questions
Do NOT do this. If you allow the swarf to simply bunch up like this while heating the stylus you'll burn plastic onto the stylus and ruin it, you have to brush it away as you cut or suction it.

Re: ATOM A101 clueless newbie questions
1. Heating wires are attached to the stylus stones, the cutter itself doesn't come with a heating wire. Now, whether or not the machine is wired to provide heating to a stylus is a different question. In picture below, I only see a single wire from the stylus to the screw on the front of the cutting...

Check eBay for makers/models that you can then research quality on as well as pricing. I found a couple listings over there for 230v to 100v step down transformers.

Piaptk: The way you can get blanks at around $1, is if you buy them in packs of 50-100 from My Shank or a similar site with cheap prices. I'm PMing you. (You were awesome on The White Rabbit Project BTW). You must be getting some sort of sweet heart deal, I just checked pricing over on MyShank and ...

I applaud your enthusiasm! I think it's great that you have created your own record label and are looking for ways to further the distribution methods of your bands and have a desire to take the next step creatively. With that being said, I would ask if you have a business plan/model related to this...

Re: Cutter physics/mechanics question...
Yes, those recorders used a feed screw system too but it's located underneath the platter. I'm not sure on the exact workings for those models but there is a system with a feed screw that maintains the distance between the grooves. The Cutting arm is coupled to a gear underneath the platter, you can...
