Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I posted a video of my machine running all 3 speeds for comparison to another lathe that's experiencing noise and rumble. I thought the video would be useful to other people so here is the link.

https://youtu.be/9sNUfWp73YI

I might shoot one with playback.

Re: Affordable Lathe For Beginner

If i had it to do over again, id just get or construct an overhead, buy a nice TT and then search for a head.

But even that will break a thousand pretty fast.

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I'd recommend a hole punch set, super handy when making your own neoprene slip mats and in cases like this. https://images.homedepot-static.com/productImages/c17395f5-0bd3-48ee-a65d-c6581e9473b4/svn/tekton-punches-nail-setter-sets-6588-64_1000.jpg Awesome. Im watching a set now. The "make your own ...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

Dang. A cored out guitar knob is a great idea for a record clamp!!! Never even considered it! Perfect for anyone with a k8, 8dg, 75a, etc. just ordered a few knobs! At first i was trying to reinvent the wheel which almost worked. But i saw some photo's of a few chucks that looked like a guitar knob...

Ametek lamb shut down?

Well, i built my vacuum box from an ametek lamb unit. It works good all for about 15 mins, then shuts off it seems. I know that these units should not run at full voltage, and mine is not, it runs at about 91v due to a transformer trick. The motor was repaired however, the spindle was damaged with o...

Re: A simple and inexpensive stereo cutter YOU can build!

Yes sir. I need some kind of pitch control, as mine was absent from the lathe when i bought it. Now lately i have been thinking of just using a motor on a pwm controller with a couple preset l.p.i. buttons to start with. Sounds like that might be fine for what i plan to cut (rock/electronic). I migh...

Re: Presto 8dg overhead only hand cranks?

Both are off the shelf toorhed pulleys from ebay. The one attached to the overhead i had too bore out the center a little bit to fit. My pulleys disappeared before i got to the machine. I think the previous owner had it running on a seperate motor and hand dialed the l.p.i. but none of what he added ...

Re: Presto 8dg overhead only hand cranks?

Hi everybody! So i got the l.p.i. motor mounted and moving the shaft from the overhead into the lathe cabinet. But the worm gear doesn't move the overhead carriage. If i use the hand crank, it works. Inbetween the handcrank and the overhead is another locking collar that moves with the l.p.i. motor...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

And i made v2 of the air chuck. Much better. I cored a guitar knob out to fit the spindle of the platter and a small copper tube. Works much better. I kept the set screw and leave it close but not touching the spindle. Now i can feel the vacume pull the lacquer. I also added fans and a controller to...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

No problem. Thanks again for all your help So the 3 terminal resistor is 50 ohm at the connected terminals. Taking a measurement on the third disconnected terminal gave me 100ohm. So they are using it as a 50ohm. The second resistor gave me .4ohms no matter how i placed my leads. That doesn't sound...

I see the type 50 ohm res But what is the type and value of the other ? Also you show two solinoids on the the diagram . One on the mount arm that throw arm for the puck and another next to the 40uf 240v cap. Looks like a black selenium rectifier, any numbers or values - I think I can see EDI PRS I...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I am still trying to build the relay element for the third motor as mine was missing. I would like to know if I can just swap out the 78 motor for a later 45 one if I can find one for sale . I drew out a schematic of the 45rpm adapter plate, was that you? I think switching one side of the transmiss...

Re: Arduino Pitch Controller

Ive been playing around with the sketch, but im as green as they come to arduino so my first attempts at modifying the sketch failed. I attempted too add a different larger screen and it compiled, but it didn't function. So i picked up a book to read on the subject. Hopefully that helps me wrap my h...

Re: Presto 8dg refurb. (Lathe porn)

I do have a quick question on the buck converter. Will it do step up conversion as well? It seems as it would. No. That specific one is down only. You can buy one that is up, down or both. Each version has it's own application... I don't know what current you need for the other motor you mentioned....
