Re: BASIC help w/ Digital File Mastering for Lathe Cut Vinyl
Well - than go ahead and master the tracks the way you like 'em - have them cut and listen to the tracks. If you don't like what you hear, repeat process. Depending on the music, you may have to compress a bit - but you'll find out.

Re: Hi. New member. Vinyl flaw question
Almost looks as if somebody with DEET (mosquito repellent) on the hands touched it. This stuff is deadly to anything vinyl.

Re: BASIC help w/ Digital File Mastering for Lathe Cut Vinyl
Howdy - I though I give you some basic directions. And the most basic direction would be: It depends :) See - if you master for cutting, you need to know how much music you want to have on the record because the more music you want to put on one side, the more you would have to limit and reduce the ...

Any synthesizer keyboard musicians here?
Hello Y'all - I have a small project and need some audio reproduced. Shouldn't be difficult for someone who has that musical gene and a keyboard :) Basically I need the audio for this video reproduced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH-lJnbHAkU We need to make changes to the video and the voice ove...

Re: How does a mother record sounds?
thanks - I see how it is unclear. What I am interested in is how a negative record sounds played back with a normal stylus - if there is any resemblance to the original audio, or if the needle simply skips... There is no usable audio information in the valleys of a negative record, because all audi...

Re: Newb question. Vinyl recorder or other?
That's not an unusual situation. There are pretty much home-, semi-pro and pro-lathes out there. Most of them are vintage equipment. While home-cutters and semi-pro lathes are affordable and available, they mostly don't offer the support for more modern "HiFi" stereo cutting heads. I am sure you rea...

Re: What is the diameter of a 10" record ?
I understand your question now. 12" records are not 12" in diameter, either. Why not measure up your product and build a box according to the required size just to be 100% sure? Because I never see the final product. It will be packed into the boxes at the pressing plant. But I have to provide the ...

What is the diameter of a 10" record ?
Hint .. it's not 10 inches. While creating shipping boxes for a 10" record set I found out, that 10" records are well, not 10" in diameter. Actually they're closer to 9.8 inches (25cm) . I measured several originals. My question: Is 25cm the standard for a ten inch? Or what would be the safe measure...

Re: Cutting 33 1/3 RPM
cutting without heat is like driving a Porsche in second gear only. Though I applied only 300mA it made all the difference. The background noise is virtually eliminated (there is a still a slight rumble, but barely noticeable) the brights are much, much better. Hello, what kind of electronic, wire ...

Re: starting a war here... (cutting on virgin vinyl related)
My understanding is that "virgin" vinyl is vinyl that has never been pressed into a record previously. The excess trim that is cut off of records is often recycled by grinding it up and mixing it in with new vinyl to produce another record. But the record companies buy the material in form of littl...

Re: starting a war here... (cutting on virgin vinyl related)
tragwag, thanks for clearing my thoughts. It's exactly what I wanted to say. I'm not blaming souri, myshank or the others - they sell plastics, not real virgin vinyl so everything is OK there. What ? *head spinning* What the hell is "virgin vinyl" ? Do you have any idea what goes in and what comes ...

Re: starting a war here... (cutting on virgin vinyl related)
What? Souri and Myshank does not sell "vinyl" or PVC. Do you even know what you're talking about?! These are not REAL VINYL or VIRGIN VINYL. These are plastic plates, extruded. Not made from mold like vinyl records. I work with plastics. I made my own fornulas for HQ cutting (chemically) - transpar...

We have made very good experiences with Otari MX 5050. Our machines are able to play and record 2- and 4 tracks with speeds from 3 3/4, 7 1/2 and 15 ips. Lots of parts and units available in different configurations.

Re: long shank or short shank?
Most shank-style cutter heads can use both. The long shank produces louder results at the expense of some losses in the upper frequency range. I have a Grampian and use long shanks because I can't get the suction under the head with a short shank stylus. Losses are not bad and one can compensate wit...
