dkmastering, many thanks! Lukas, thank you. I can assure you that a lot has happened since the 1920's. My paper is not a repetition of what is already known, but a documentation of the latest developments and a presentation of the current state of the art, especially regarding cutting amplifier desi...

AES Journal: Motional Feedback Disk Recording System Design
For the first time in many years, the November 2018 issue of the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society (JAES Volume 66 Issue 11) includes an article pertaining to disk recording technology! My engineering report, titled "An Investigation of Motional Feedback Disk Recording System Design" , was ac...

Thank you.
Yes, we can also offer a simple stereo unit. That would be the Agnew Analog Type 712.
It would essentially be two type 710 units on one box, without the protection fuse section.
Please email info@agnewanalog.com to discuss technical details and pricing.
Best wishes,
J. I. Agnew

Cutter head adapters, stylus adapters, and RIAA pre-emphasis
A study in mono: Accessories for monophonic cutter heads. We recently worked on a few projects involving monophonic cutter heads. We basically had the heads and needed to test them, but no suitable stylus and only an AM44 available as a lathe. One of the heads came with electronics, but the other o...

Re: Presto adapter to fit vinyl recorder?
I machine these out of aluminum. Have a look here: http://agnewanalog.com/products/mountingadapter.shtml I can make one for the VR if you want. I also make stylus shank adapters with which you could fit a Souri stylus on your Presto head: https://agnewanalog.com/blog/2018/10/13/lab-report-making-cut...

Re: Absolute Polarity
Boogievan, I thin you misunderstood my post. I am not opposed to polarity inversion switches, I use them myself. I agree of course that there are several valid techniques that require one, like the Sylvia Massey example you mention. I was referring to the far more common practice of just flipping th...

Re: Wanted Record Lathe up to 7,000 Euro
Is your amplifier capable of driving a stereophonic cutterhead? What turntable to you have?
What do you need, exactly?
There are always plenty of options, you just need to be a bit more specific.

Re: rek o kut model V with model M5 cutter assy. help
We can make almost any part for any make/model of disk recording lathe, as a one-off or in quantity. We can also make custom parts where needed. So, technically, it would be possible to make a leadscrew and half-nut for your machine, if you cannot find the original parts anywhere. In most cases, fin...

Yes, Nygaard got it right, citing in his 1979 paper having used texts borrowed from 'Danmarks Tekniske Højskole'. Also, fwiw, Section 5 of the paper containing the image I attached is listed in the table of contents as 'Standards'. (For the record, the image is a screen grab from the .pdf available...

Re: Cutter Head Impedance Matching Transformers
Thank you tragwag and Patrick! I was asked by a customer if I could make his 500 ohm head work with a "normal" amp and this is how these transformers came to be. It suddenly dawned on me that there are many 500 ohm heads sitting unused, while the solution is actually quite easy and only takes 5 minu...
