Re: VR chip suction issue
i had the same issue when my head was too light and the stylus wasn't able to cut proper groove but just touch the blank exactly, great clarification. there are a lot of factors that can cause the head to have less than perfect contact, and even if the head weight seems right at the measuring point...

mod note: moved this to the "secrets" section, this section Cutters And Their Work is more for coverage of trolls activity, and questions regarding the members themselves rather than specific gear questions.

Re: Line Output Converters
what I gather from your post is - why not simplify the signal chain as much as possible? I respect that other cutters may have a different way of working, but for my Presto 6N setup it goes like this: focusrite sapphire pro 40 ->mackie big knob (routing and level only) -> power amp ->cutting head I ...

Re: Warped blank records
there's another thread somewhere, but it helped me get a seed propagation mat. basically a heat mat you can stack a bunch of records on top and the bottom few will warm up. it's safe to leave on for a long time, and just the right amount of heat. I got this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/173665485506...

Re: VR chip suction issue
bumping this thread as I've refined the fix some more: because of the rigid chip pickup hose I was using, and the distance from the chip jar to the lathe, my chip tube was slightly inching up during the cut. the tube would start to push up on the cutting head but only on the inner diameter. Sometime...

Re: Bad feed screw/blade ?
seems like a feedscrew issue to me. personally I've had the spring that holds the blade down give out, it was an easy swap with one off the shelf from the hardware store. just look extremely carefully at the top knurled knob as the carriage passes over that area of the feedscrew, and note any change...

Re: Results so far, Rek-o-Kut Challenger
cheers on the good cuts! the volume question is a really difficult one with the mono embossing. I land below 0dB (ref +4dBu) most times when embossing dynamic stuff. In simplified numbers most pro pressed records you'll find with peaks near to +4dBu and an RMS level near to 0dB. if you don't have on...

Re: Warped blank records
I've dealt with this same issue over the years a bunch, haven't found a tried and true solution. heating them back up much takes A LOT of time when every blank has a slight warp. but especially on one of my lathes, a slight warp causes chip drop every time. putting them under the weight of the whole...
