Re: Ebay: Neumann AM32B

Yes, there was a Neumann platter on eBay awhile ago for 5K... I was thinking a Caruso and a belt driven custom platter. If you don't destroy the parts that you modify then you could start cutting sooner for a lot less and buy original parts as they pop up. This is me being optimistic about the cost ...

Re: Ebay: Neumann AM32B

Neumann lathes were built like tanks and their mechanics are pretty flawless, so unless this machine has been also treated like a tank (which it may have been judging by the look of it) it should be mechanically sound. If you were looking to restore this lathe to original specs then you may have a h...

Re: Sillitoe Studio Lathe

Cheers dimi! The platter motor is the black thing that's hanging out off the side of the bench with the wires coming out of it.
It's one of these, very powerful.

Sillitoe Studio Lathe

Sillitoe Studio Lathe 17-04-2015.jpg Doesn't look like much yet but here's another lathe I'm building using more parts from two grand format printers that I was lucky enough to acquire. In its current state it weighs around 60kg and is 700mm long. It has a brushless dc motor and lead screw setup mo...

Re: SP10MKII Lathe

I plan to sell custom built lathes in the future (once I've shown my systems fully working), no heads, just mechanics and electronics etc. If you don't find a suitable product then I can supply to you...
Cheers

Re: SP10MKII Lathe

Thanks Bahndahn. Yeah I'll post a big video showing my whole system sometime, (head's arriving soon and still contemplating amps). I'm currently working on my 4th lathe build in the style of a Neumann. I'll post pics here later this week... Too many ideas not enough time. :D Yes MAX is amazing, so m...

Re: turntable bearing

Yes only for playback tables, imagine how much air you'd need to pump to support a Lyrec platter!
As for many audiophile products no specs are listed, instead claims of "best" and "highest performance" are given.
I just found it while researching possible designs to copy haha.

Yeah, I was looking at this air bearing system that also included vacuum for the disk. Pretty interesting.

Is this system posted by Bahndahn a similar example to what is being discussed here?

Re: turntable bearing

Yeah I'm using a tapered roller bearing in my next build.
People have used Maglev bearings and air bearings for some high end stuff... I don't know much about it.
