Re: TRANSCO/APOLLO Stopped producing DUB PLATES
Good to know, Tim! Thanks for the info. Kind of amusing that the quality is so good that so few don't pass inspection to become dub plates!

Re: modern 78rpm records?
I've had people request a cut record that will play on a wind-up phonograph and I've told them the heavy tone arm and "railroad spike" needles will chew it right up. I didn't think of using a bamboo needle for playback. Maybe I'll give it a try. I have two wind-up record players to try it on.

Re: TRANSCO/APOLLO Stopped producing DUB PLATES
I got lucky a few years ago and got a lot of NOS blanks from Ebay. Now they are nearly impossible to find, and eventually I'll want to get new dub plates. I wonder if Transco/Apollo were just selling off stock and really aren't making any new ones? I suppose I could ask them. Has anyone else already...

Adapting an antique carbon mike to work with a Presto K-10
I currently have a friend who knows much more about electronics than I do getting my old carbon mike to work. I want to use it with my Presto record lathe. What kind of impedance should it have? I know that modern mikes do not work with it. I have an old lollipop mike that does. It has the typical s...

Re: Rek-O-Kut lead screws
I have a K-10 but it is missing some of the gears that take the place of lead screws. There should be four in total - one for outside-in standard groove and one for outside-in microgroove and the other two are the same except inside-out. They are normally found stored under the turntable. The one I ...

Re: Noisy K8 cuts, what the deal?
I've started using Turtle Wax Spray & Wipe on my NOS blanks plus a heat lamp to soften the laquer a bit. I'm getting pretty quiet cuts making 78s.

Rek-O-Kut lead screws
Is it possible to obtain a lead screw that will allow me to cut standard groove (not microgroove) for making 78s? The machine is an Imperial.

Fixing my Presto K-10 - a good news story
I've always had trouble with my K-10 since I bought it on Ebay years ago. It didn't want to spin at exactly 78 RPM (The speed I wanted to cut most of my records). Recently, the motor began to seize up. Luckily, I had also bought an incomplete Presto K-8 to use for parts. Despite not being mechanical...

Re: Clear Polycarbonate discs for sale
Hi.
.030" is what I have available. I suppose one could glue two discs together. I cut out a test disc with scissors to see if it would work and it did. It looks like I'll be doing this.

Clear Polycarbonate discs for sale
I am thinking of getting some 0.030" thick clear polycarbonate die cut. They would be a 10" circle with a spindle hole and a second hole for those lathes that have a registration pin (or whatever it called). To keep costs down, I want to order in quantity. I'm thinking I would sell them for $4.00 ea...

What are these disds made of??
I have some 12" NOS blank discs I picked up in a bundle on Ebay. They have yellow labels that say "National Hollywood Recording Disc" on them and the disc itself is a kind of a dark red color. They are very shiny. The material seems very hard and so they are difficult to cut, which may also be due t...

cuttting time @ 78 rpm
I've done an internet search and also searched this forum, but I can't find what the recording time would be on a 7 or 8 inch disc at 78 rpm. I have a few NOS blanks at these sizes and I kind of hate it when the recording space runs out on my Presto K-10 and it re-cuts the last groove too many times.
