Re: DMM questions
Cool article. Only, shellac was never a mastering material (; Also, I would describe the copper disk as a directly-cut 'mother' which is used to make a 'son'. Same (reduced) number of steps as they cite, but they're not really making a 'father' because that more difficult step is made from a silvere...

Yes, interesting development. Where are they getting their amorphous copper blanks?

Re: Strange audible error on 1959 stereo disc
Is there another scenario? The groove's center line reflection appears to be flattened only at the deepest (i.e., widest) sections of the groove, and the center line is still narrow and clean after the brief 'widenings'. Therefore, we know the cutting stylus tip didn't break, which would have ruined...

Re: Strange audible error on 1959 stereo disc
Mothers are not said to be 'polished'. They're said to be 'buffed'. This is done because polishing the stamper face obviously hurts the sound. Buffing the mother is less harmful since the buffing is done mostly to the unused land. Both were done in order to facilitate the pressing operation and to m...

Re: Strange audible error on 1959 stereo disc
Perhaps it shows that they 'polished' the stamper and thereby broke off the peaks of the mountains, forming high altitude mesas (on the stamper) and flat land zones at the bottom of the groove of your pressing... The wider groove sections, having wide, flat lands, instead of narrow valleys, would ma...

Re: DMM questions
Yeah, there's no mention of 'cadmium' in that patent application. Wondering if 'cadmium' was erroneously attributed to Wadsworth because, despite the Decca connection, the authors were from Schleswig-Holstein, and were, therefore, native speakers of German and, being not from America - the only plac...

Re: DMM questions
Copper is actually soft compared to many metals. The TelDec .pdf mentions that it's amorphous copper and, therefore, is resistant to the elec-Troll -lytic (; processes which take place during electroforming of the sons. They are cutting ' mothers ' directly - which is the main reason for developing ...

Hola Claudio, General guidelines for Nickel Sulfamate bath concentrations are given on wikipedia. The page suggests a Boric acid concentration of 30-45 g/L, but the Nickel Sulfamate concentration would be ten times that amount (300=450 g/L), and, if used (?), Nickel Chloride would be no more than 30...

While that, all, may be true, it's not convenient to adjust a cutter's vertical tracking angle without adjusting its stylus rake angle. The Ortofon cutters that have been adapted for 25 degree VCA still have the stylus rake angle of just 1.8 degrees more 'scratching into the lacquer' than 90... The ...

The two Ametek/Lamb pump boxes, here, have no exit hole. Air escapes from the seam of the front panel. The box should sit on a foam pad to minimize vibrational hum. We put the pump in another room, using a vacuum hose extension with smooth inner wall (to minimize the loss of efficiency that the turb...

That's still in the past, if based on 15 degrees, but close enough for jazz. Guys, these carts now, since 1972, according to Nygaard, are making 20 degrees VTA. Maybe yours was set before or maybe they make actually 30 degrees, now?

Great idea to do this. You're getting 'warmer', Signor! (: Se vuoi inchiodarlo, prova a migliorare la corrispondenza più vicino alla prima ottava. True, but it should read, '_divided_ by 0.57' when the playback target is 78 and the cut is made to slowed-down music at 45.

Re: Lathes in Jamaica
When I first heard of King Tubby, I assumed he was fat. After looking at his pictures, I realized he's too slim to have been called Tubby, as a nickname, and yet he wasn't so svelte that it made sense as a form of sarcasm, either. I'm sure it was foisted on him by people who don't even like dub. 'Tu...

Channel One had a Neumann which someone is checking out, here: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/30/47/70/3047702c15cf9b543333007ed74dde5f.jpg Counting the number of the coil windings, I see the date-numerology of King Tubby's murder was: (2 × 6 × 1 × 9 × 8 × 9 =) 7776. So, pretty ominous, right there,...
