Very sad to hear.
2020 has not been kind to those into all things record related.
Alan got some of my Presto gear when I got rid of many things before my move in 2007.

If I remember my Amperite time delay relay nomenclature correctly that would be a 6 Volt, Normally Open, 45 second time delay relay. I do not know of a drop in replacement. You would need some counter circuit using perhaps a 555 timer that would run on 6V. and after a 45 second time constant, close ...

I suggest recording some more interesting content :) But seriously, there is dull as in wrong eq and dull as in the head doesn't go out very far in frequency. My Rek-O-Kut head was able to produce recordings that sounded natural if not extended in response with actual measured reasonable response to...

AFAIK, 78s shifted over to modern plastics like styrene and vinyl during the 1950s as the microgroove 33s and 45s took over and 78s went away. Interestingly, the last 78s were produced for 3rd world nations into the 60s. There were Beatles 78s. These were produced because the countries still had a p...

Re: Fay recorder
I remember seeing a 'Fay Recorder' a long time ago that was basically a spring driven turntable with an acoustic recorder and horn. I don't remember if there was a feed screw assembly that moved it across the disc, or if it used pre-grooved blanks like those Victor made for their RE series of Elect...

Through various customer requests and experimentation on my own, I've attempted many different materials for playback on a mechanical phonograph. The main problem is not necessarily wear, but softer materials such as vinyl, lacquer, polycarbonate, etc. simply cause the turntable to slow down and st...

Interesting project. The previous post covered all the basics. I would only add that the reason you can't play back a modern pressed vinyl 78 with old "standard" width grooves on an old acoustic gramophone is just that the vinyl is softer than the old materials used then and the grooves will wear ou...

The ones I have for 33 and 78 for this table just say "G" as their only designation. I would certainly be interested if your 45 one would work for my model G2 table. The outside diameter of the larger part of the 33 wheel and both of the 78 wheels (1:1) are just under 3". Shaft bushing seems to be a...

Re: Looking for Lat/Vert Card
Hi Everyone, I'm looking to purchase a Lat/Vert card as a backup for a VMS 80 or 82. Does anyone know where I can find one? Also, does anyone know if a Lat/Vert card from a different machine would work with either an 80 or 82? Thanks. Dante What is it's purpose in the system? You know that left/rig...

Hi, I want to get back to this head and modidfy it for the 6N. Very interested in any help or colaboration. I've been looking at implementing the Fairchild system for feedback. This method uses an RF inductance bridge running at 10Mhz excitation. This gets the feedback signal out of the head actuat...

And what about a stylus microscope? I know how to look at playback styli but am frustrated trying to see why a particular cutting stylus does not work properly. What tips are there to look for beyond obvious blunting or broken tips? I am generally speaking of the old steel styli for home large groov...
