Audiopoint Pro Playback Sapphire

Looking for straight and bent shank. 78 and microgroove Micro Groove Version usually have two red circles on the shank near the tip.

Thanks

Re: 2nd owner Presto 6N for sale

It is beautiful and I have no doubt. I have the suitcase version. Got mine in 1988 I'm owner number 2 also. I have the receipt from Seattle Radio Supply long gone now. dated 1941 with 85E amp that was gone with I arrived on the scene. I'd love it but know it's rather off my plate.

Tentatively looking for another 6N

Hi Everyone:

I'm looking to be in the market for another 6N. Complete and repairable or running. However the ebay pricing is completely out of my league. Reasonable I can do. Suitcase version would be ideal. But I can build my own base as needed.

Thanks

Replacement motor for 6N

Hi: Due to some issues I wound having a 33 & 78 motor drive made and a separate one for 45 I did this because I do cut some 78's. Now what I did was carry the cutter up to the machinist along with a strobe disc. And we took those pulleys off and on a few times slightly polishing each time until spee...

Heat Presto 1C

Hi Tony: I'm using a 1-C with heat. I just glued a couple small alligator clamps to cover of the head. With small peices of insulating material under them of course. I also filled in the space between 2 teeth with a peice of wire to make a flat. The lead from the stylus heating coil is clipped under...

Old Capps Styli

Hi Mossboss: Many thanks for the information. The appearance of the stylus under a microscope is way different from other styli I've looked at. As to how the facets etc are cut. I'd heard of more or less universal playback styli of years gone by. Never had seen an actual stylus designed to cut this ...

Old Capps Styli

Hi: In the bottom of an old K8 that I got to be an organ donor was this old stylus. I cleaned it up and it's cuts like a champ. On the shank it says Capps S.A. 2187512 Anyone have an idea as to what mil it is?. Funny the cut is larger then LP but is smaller then 78 at least to my eye. Seams I can us...

RIAA Ecoder Jamaica Style

Hi:

Can anyone tell me the value of the capacitor above the 100k resistor which is above the cutter switch? Between A-3 And A-4.

I cannot make out the printing on the diagram.

Thanks in advance

Hi: I have my 6N and all equipment in the front room of my apartment. I put the vacuum out on the lanai when I'm using the lathe. :D The setup serves as a conversation peice sometimes. And the cats don't mind. Now if I had a wife or girl friend that might make a difference. Old batchelor and can do ...

Feed Screws

Hi: I've had good luck with 224 LPI on my 6N. I drop the level about 4 or 5 db to keep the grooves from touching is all. I've kind of thought 180 LPI might be a good compromise. I have a 136 LPI. It's fine for louder cuts but I'd like to be able to get just a little more time. Really depends on the ...

Bruce Leslie

I'm very saddened to hear of Bruce passing. He had rebuilt my cutter head Presto 1C some time ago. He had it for some time and was concerned that it be just right before he shipped it back to me.

It works wonderfully now.

Erasing Acetate

Prior to polyester based stock. I remember the image just falling off if any water got on it. Used to spit on the film to soften the emulsion prior to wet splicing. I spent a goodly number of years with motion picture projection. Installations and all that stuff. 35mm old mono academy standard was d...

500 ohm head

Hi Steve: No problem in making the 15 ohm conversion. I kept my own at 500 ohms to preserve all the original Presto Amp switching. As I probably will never use anything but the Presto amp in my case. I do have a 500ohm to 8 ohm matching trans that I can use if I ever want to use a modern amp with it...

Motor Noise

Hi Steve: There should be a capacitor across the motor switch on the 6N it could bad or have been removed. That is the pop issue when switch is turned on and off. Secondly I have replaced the original power cord on mine with a 3 wire cord so I can ground it. Also have replaced pickup cartridge lead ...

Presto mounting

Hi Prestogirl:

I'm in the USA but I got some stainless steel replacement mounting screws at a local hardware store here. So I would think the same would be available in your location.

Terry's Rubber Rollers did a beautiful job on the drive wheels for my own 6N once again though he's in the US

I got a couple of NOS 78 from Len at History Of Recorded Sound. I to wonder if any new ones are made. Somehow I doubt it.
