Re: Ebay: Neumann VMS70
I agree powerstrip. The only downside is for people like me who are looking for a machine to begin with or for parts. People who set these high prices encourage other sellers with equivalent equipment to raise their prices too. Some of these lathes are often in disrepair and they expect to get as mu...

Re: Low volume cuts
True, but once the magnet is out you can recharge it using the method described.
However if you don't want to risk to take apart a head, you're might be better off to someone who knows how to rebuild them.

"strength"
Here's a trick that might work if it is the magnet. Just please check the polarity first.

Re: Powering a lathe
Use a 240V to 12V power supply and hook that to a power inverter. The power inverter will give you 110V. A true or pure shine wave inverter will be best. Using a step down tranformer will not give you the 60 cycles that are need for the motor, Euro power only gives you 50. for more info: http://lath...

Re: Can anyone identify this Presto Lathe model?
From the pictures from Alan Graves's site, http://www.prestohistory.com/Presto1.html , it looks like an overhead from Presto's first stationary lathe. The model A looks close but your's has a different cover on the worm gear like the stationary one. They might be interchangeable. From the way your v...

Re: looping issue HELP!
Hey, I'm not an expert and might be a dumb ass at this but I do have a good understanding on machinery. Stupid question, how are you visually inspecting the disc with the looping and does the looping happen on same diameter of the other discs? Does the carriage slide easily when the feed is not enga...

Re: sewing needles
If I'm correct that's in Fahrenheit. I heard people heating up to 140 but I imagine ymmv.
I wouldn't heat a steel stylus for for fear of heating the head and possibly melting something. I was told the best to heat the materiel if your embossing.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re: Transparency Flexi Sheets
Ok, so this this material embosses but the main issue that it's too shallow to track. If you put weight to go deeper the the material just breaks up. I've tried heating it and it's a no go. I guess I can't get it hot enough or the material properties does not give to more bend of the surface. I'm ab...

Re: Need term for a specific groove measurement
I'm no expert so please take this as a grain of salt: Using general geometry "should" answer at least the width of a groove. But first we must know: -The depth of the cut from the surface to the bottom of the groove. -A microgroove is cut at 90 degrees. -The total count of all 3 angles of a triangle...

Not sure if this is helpful but RCA did some tests with an air daspot on lacquers however it explains how it helps.
