Re: funky frankenstein lathe cut records

Sorry yall just got behind playing some outta town shows and dealing with the county being up my ass trying to shut down my house venue.
All good tho, been at it for like 10 years and I have no exit strategy so I'll be at it for a long time still.

Re: New Embossing Stylus!

Very impressed with your work on this Epos. About 7 years ago alot of us were experimenting with "plotter blades", blades that come triangle cut to a specified degree similar to what you've been working on but with much steeper angles. https://www.averydennison.com/content/corp/na/en/home/newsroom/a...

Re: Looking to get records cut in bulk

I'm cutting on a 6N right now.
I think my current time limit is around 17-18 minutes.
And for sides that long I'd tack on a time charge.
Also "he" would be correct. FF is a one man rodeo.

Re: Alternatives to flashing for silvered parts

Fathers or masters
Co-worker doesn't like the idea of de-silvering all of them because he's worried that changing the molecular structure of the surface will affect quality if we ever need to make new mothers off of them.

Alternatives to flashing for silvered parts

We've been pushing much higher volumes at the plating shop lately and it's been very troublesome to find time to flash all of our silvered parts.
Anybody know any alternatives to flashing for protecting silvered parts?

Re: Really quiet cuts on a Rek O kut Challenger

Sometimes quiet cuts can be the result of improper armature setting. I've noticed that on my Presto heads, don't know if your heaad might work the same way.

Re: One intermittent channel during mono embossing

I'm familiar with them and I don't think it's horns, unless they're interferring in a way I've never encountered before. I think it's in the cutting somehow and not the playback. I have a playback turntable that is a little fast and doesn't occur exactly with each revolution there, it's slightly off...

Re: One intermittent channel during mono embossing

Here is a video illustrating the problem as best I can:
https://youtu.be/zHHm_eWzHNI

Here is a video I took with my microscope camera of the grooves in a couple different places on the record, starting in the middle where it happens most often.

One intermittent channel during mono embossing

The past few days I've been battling this issue where one channel (the left speaker) is fading in and out. I'm even more perplexed because I'm cutting on a mono system. It can occur at any point but usually waits until about halfway through to record to show up. I'm cutting with a mono Presto 1C hea...

Re: Record Puck Clamp -which to use?

I make really simple clamps out of my excess makrolon. Just drill it to where it fits tight on the center pin and glue some of the protective sheeting to the bottom to make a slip resistant surface. Costs almost literally nothing and the best part is if I lose one or forget to bring it to a cutting ...

Irregularities in Makrolon Sheets

I keep finding what appears to be little bubbles or pits in the surface of brand new blanks. I can't decide if this is a product of the production process or improper handling/storage from my supplier, or even something else I'm not thinking of. Anybody else experience this? Is it just something tha...

Re: Inconsistent groove depth - Presto 75A

I've got a pretty good amount of weight on it and the head is mounted as low as possible so I don't think it's that. After a little messing around I think the floor problem might be the ticket, I've been able to recreate the effects by lightly hopping around. My house has hardwood, only lived here f...

Inconsistent groove depth - Presto 75A

So I'm having this issue where my grooves will randomly disappear for a split second, like the cutterhead became lifted up briefly, creating a dashed line looking effect in the groove. It does this completely at random it seems, it's always in different places, just once or twice here and there. Som...

Re: Who knows a good machinist? (Microfusion Book Type Molds

I don't have proper blueprints or models, the closets I have are the drawings and diagrams included in the original patent. I don't really know regarding tolerances, but I imagine they have to be pretty tight for perfect alignment of the stampers. The original patent identifies the walls as being ma...

Who knows a good machinist? (Microfusion Book Type Molds)

Hey guys, as the title suggests I'm looking for a good machinist (...I think). Basically I'm trying to find someone that can make some simplified book type molds for the microfusion pressing process. This is a proven process of vinyl manufacture that uses electrically heated presses of much smaller ...

Beautiful!
Are you painting these using some kind of dip painting with water or something?
I did a similar thing for RSD last year, only with screenprinting.
